Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The board will hold regular weekly meetings with the custodian and secondary roads departments. The DC Supervisors will discuss Fawn Ave. closure, open project bids, discuss a benefit package for the Director of Disability Services and a contract for courthouse Christmas lights. The board will consider scheduling a courthouse security meeting, discuss possible employee health screenings and hear committee reports.

School board to discuss asbestos abatement Monday

The Davis County School Board will meet for a work session at 6 p.m. Monday to tour facility improvement sites prior to the 7 p.m. board meeting. The Davis County School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday night. The board will consider contracts and resignations, hear administrative reports, and will hear an asbestos abatement presentation from Darwin Rhode. The board will hear an update on the stadium and tennis court renovations, discuss a proposal to name the track and field, approve the middle school handbook, and consider a 28E agreement with SIEDA Head Start. The board will also consider an amendment to an educational services contract with Indian Hills Community College, consider and agreement with Struxture Architects, approve a general services agreement with Carl A. Nelson and Company, and consider invoices for work on the middle school gym floor and compressors at the high school.


Boden hired as new city administrator

The Bloomfield City Council approved a resolution approving the final plans, specifications and form of contract for a solar array to be built in Bloomfield. The council also tabled the final reading of an ordinance to remove angle parking in the center of the streets on three sides of the square and to install angle parking on the interior of those streets. The council voted to hire Gary Boden of Marengo, Ill. as the new city administrator. The council also agreed to contest a request by the county seeking payment for problems with the installation of a sewer lateral at the new Davis County Law Center.

Hospital Board meets Monday

The Davis County Hospital Board will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Conference Room B of the hospital. Agenda items include policy statements and plans; appointments and reappointments; finance and administrative reports.

Council to meet Thursday night

The Bloomfield City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The Council will conduct a public hearing to discuss the final plans specifications and form of contract for a solar array. The council will consider the final reading of an ordinance to remove angle parking from the center of the streets on three sides of the Bloomfield square and to add angle parking to the inside of those three streets around the courtyard. The council will consider a pay request from RG Construction for work performed on the library. The council will consider action needed to repair a sewer lateral at the new law center. The council will discuss the need for a new roof on the maintenance building at the IOOF cementery and will consider posting the gas department lead position. The council will also consider the resignation of an employee.


Four incumbents seek re-election to school board

The Davis County School District announced this week that four incumbent board members have filed nomination papers seeking re-election to the the board during the Sept. 12 School Board Election. Rod Lynch, Director District 7; Sheryl Wright, Director District 3; Josh O'Dell, Director District 4 and Alan Bodkins, Director District 1 will all be on the ballot. No one else filed nomination papers prior to the Aug. 3 deadline, meaning that anyone wishing to run against an incumbent must do so through a write-in campaign.



Larry Duane Wardlow

Larry Duane Wardlow, 73, of Bloomfield passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017 at the Bloomfield Care Center. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Wakelin officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the family present from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home. Baseball/Softball scoreboards

Fall sports teams in action soon

The Mustang football team will take part in a varsity scrimmage Friday night. The football team along with the cross country and volleyball teams have all been hard at work with pre-season practices since Aug. 7. Friday night's scrimmage will be held at Cardinal and will begin at 7 p.m. The volleyball team will host a scrimmage at the Mutchler Community Center on Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. Fall sports schedules get underway with the first football game on Aug. 25. Davis County travels to Fort Madison. The volleyball team will take part in the Bondurant-Farrar Tournament on Aug. 26 and the cross country team's season will begin on Aug. 31 at Wayne of Corydon.
