Hospital board to meet Monday evening

The Davis County Hospital Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening. The board will hear a report from Karen Kincart in regard to physical therapy's department report. The board will also discuss the 2018-2020 strategic plan and will hear reports from management staff. The board is expected to take action regarding a policies, credential appointments, an increase in physcian priveledges, and the monthly financial report. The board will consider a proposal for medical staff rules and regulations, and will discuss 2018 meeting dates.

School board to meet Monday night

The Davis County School board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday night. The board will consider personnel contracts, resignations, and will consider an early retirement incentive. The baord will also consider moving forward with phase two of the bond issue construction design and will consider a pay request by Christner Contracting. The meeting will conclude with a board education session regarding legislative advocacy.

Public safety Commission to meet Monday afternoon

The Bloomfield-Davis County Public Safety Commission will meet at 4 p.m. at the Davis County Law Center Conference Room. The meeting is being held to discuss the budget for the 2019 fiscal year.

Fundraiser generates funds to help Stromgren family

A fundraising effort by the Davis County Basketball teams Saturday night has raised approximately $10,000 to help fund medical bills for the family of Trevor Stromgren. Stromgren is a third grade student at Davis County Elementary and is now battling cancer for the third time. Funds were raised through the sales of T-Shirts to both the Davis County and Van Buren County Communities. More than 80 special baskets were also donated toward a silent action held durign the games on Saturday night. The family also received more than $2,300 in donations including a $500 donation from First Iowa State Bank as part of the effort. Fund will go to help pay the family's medical bills.


Mustang basketball team to be honored, Ritz available for card signing

Friday night's high school basketball games between Davis County and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont will also play host to a reunion recognition of the 1981-1982 Mustang basketball team that earned its way to the Iowa State Basketball Tournament with a 19-2 record. Team members from that squad will be on hand for the game and will be recognized at half time of the boys' varsity game. Team member Kevin Ritz will also be on hand throughout the evening and has agreed to do a baseball card signing beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday night. The event is being used as a fundraiser for the Davis County School Foundation. Ritz has agreed to sign baseball cards and has also agreed to sign baseball caps and other items brought for the evening.

Wulf convicted of theft charges in hunting scam

Andrew Wulf, of Tipton, was convicted Thursday afternoon of two counts of second-degree theft (class D felonies) and one count of ongoing criminal conduct (a class B folony charge). The case against Wulf stems from a hunting scam he allegedly ran using lodging facilities and hunting ground in and around Davis County. Wulf was accused of taking thousands of dollars from several hunters and not providing guided hunting services the hunters had paid to receive. Three hunters did consent to be witnesses in the case and did testify in court against Wulf. Court records are still being processed in the case. Sentencing has been set for March 2 at 11 a.m.

Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The supervisors will discuss the removal of a tree in the courtyard with the custodian and will talk with County Engineer Ryan Shock about setting a bid letting date for a bridge repair. The board will discuss a bill from Waste Management, a plan to replace a county vehicle and will discuss a possible HIPAA contract with the Iowa Association of Counties.

Baseball/Softball scoreboards

Bowling team finishes second at Sigourney

The Mustang bowling team finished secondSaturday in a quadrangular meet at Sigourney. Sigourney won the meet with 2,565 pins. Davis County finished with 2,376 pins. Centerville finished iwth 1,965 pins and the Isaac Newton Christian Academy finished with 1,555 pins. Kaleb Wagler led Davis County with a 327 two-game series. Matthew Liles finished with a 326. Davis County returns to action Tuesday with a home meet at Davis County Lanes. Action begins at 4 p.m.

Lady Mustangs lose to E-B-F and Van Buren in weekend games

The Lady Mustang basketball team suffered 50-38 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Saturday and suffered a 64-26 loss to Van Buren on Saturday evening. Davis County returns to action Monday night with a game at Pekin. The junior varsity game begins at 4:15 p.m. followed by the varsity game.

Mustang basketball team loses to E-B-F, Van Buren

The Mustang boys' basketball team suffered a 70-33 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont last Friday night and suffered a 74-38 loss to Van Buren on Saturday night. Davis County returns to action Tuesday with a game at Washington. Action begins at 4:45 p.m. with the freshman game. The junior varsity and varsity games will follow.
