Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday morning. The board will hold their weekly meetings with the courthouse custodian and the secondary roads department. They will meet with Eileen Taylor to discuss a summary of the welcome center. They will meet with John Hansen to discuss construction progress with the jail. They will consider compensation board recommendations and will canvass votes for the Dec. 6 Indian Hills bond issue election

Donations still being sought by I CARE

The local I CARE program announced this week that it is still seeking donations and volunteers to "adopt" a child by taking an angel off the Angel Tree at Keith's Foods. Those wishing to help are asked to keep checking the Angel tree regularly because angels are being added frequently. Donations of gifts, cash or volunteer labor are still needed. Anne Morgan of Bloomfield is the contact person for the program. Sandy Mason is in charge of the Angel tree.

Pearl Harbor remembered in this weeks Bloomfield Democrat

The 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in this weeks Bloomfield Democrat. Coverage of the war printed in December of 1941 is also included. Also included are stories about the late Neal  Clyman who was a WWII POW,  the late Tom Prevo who witnessed the Pearl Harbor attacks, Clyde Benge who was involved in the Bataan Death March, and Dean Dixon who enlisted in WW II after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Wise visits DC schools

Dr. Ryan Wise, executive director of the Iowa Department of Education was in Bloomfield last week to visit the Davis County School District. Wise visited classrooms in all three buildings, met with administrators, and learned about the challenges facing the Davis County School District. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about Dr. Wise's visit.

High school student council hosts toy drive

The Davis County High School Student Council is conducting a toy drive to benefit kindergarten and first grade students at the Davis County Elementary. New or gently used toys are being accepted and should be dropped off at the Davis County High School before Dec. 20.

Students conduct donation drive for animal shelter

The middle school student council will host a pet supply drive through Dec. 20. Items are being collected to benefit the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa. Suggested items include large rubber gloves, cleaning sponges, paper towels, heavy duty large trash bags, dog and cat toys, treats, cleaning supplies, dog food and cat food, blankets (new or used), cat litter and water dishes. Anyone wishing to donate items is asked to take them to the Davis County Middle School office.

Craig Nalley

Craig Keith Nalley, 68, of rural Bloomfield, passed away Dec. 6, 2016, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Doran Bollman officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the Pulaski Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to Hospice of Davis and Wapello Counties and Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion.

Norman Lindley

Norman Lindley, 74, of Bloomfield died Dec. 5 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield with Rev. Matt Froah officiating. Burial will be at the Floris Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. A memorial has been established.

James Meredith Baughman

James Meredith Baughman, 85, of Pulaski, Iowa died Dec. 3,at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Dec. 10, at the Pulaski Mennonite Church with Rev. Darrell Zook officiating.  Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established.

The Lady Mustang basketball team suffered a 70-33 loss to Burlington Thursday night in non-conference action. Mchelle Allen scored 13 to lead Davis Countys offense.

Mustangs go 1-2 at Eddyville, travel to Central Decatur Friday

The Mustang wrestling team went 1-2 Thursday night. Davis County suffereda 62-12 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and also suffered a 59-23 loss to Centerville. Davis County scored a 54-18 win over Montezuma in non-conference action. Davis County travels to Leon Friday night for the Central Decatur Tournament. Action begins at 5 p.m.
