Cleanup from last week’s storm is pretty much complete. However, rains continue to dump on Davis County. Additional storms over the weekend created more flooding and other problems for county residents. Officially, Davis County has received 5.58 inches of rain since June 24 after severe storms an a pair of tornadoes ripped through the county.
The Bloomfield Public Library is seeking public input for a renovation project. The public is asked to complete a three-minute survey online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/bplbuilding. The building committee is looking to uncover some possible needs for the library that have not been thought of yet. The committee will obtain results from the survey by July 15.
The Fort Bloomfield Rodeo will get underway later this week at the Davis County Fairgrounds. The annual rodeo brings in contestants from several Midwestern states. The rodeo begins Thursday and runs through Saturday night.
Reunion 2015 kicks off Friday night with the annual Childrens theater production of The adventures of Rikki-Tikki Tavi at 7 p.m. Activities continue Saturday with breakfast by the Rotary Club, a youth arts festival at 9 a.m., a high school choir reunion from 9 a.m. to noon, a 10 a.m. tour of the old school social center and the museum complex, an arts festival display from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., a library tour at 11 a.m., high school tour at 1:30 p.m. and a tour of the upper story housing project from 2-5 p.m. The Sweet Harmony Reunion Concert will be held in the gazebo at 5 p.m. The Davis County Cattlemen will also be serving food at 5 p.m. Standing Hampton will be the featured entertainment Saturday night from 8 p.m. to midnight. Patty Elizabeth Spurgeon, 88, of Osage Beach, Mo. and former resident of Bloomfield, passed away June 27, 2015 at Lakeside Meadows in Osage Beach, Mo. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at Wagler Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Lords Cupboard.
Marlin R. Hesse, 62, of Ottumwa died Saturday, June 27 at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, rural Floris. Gifts to a memorial to be designated later may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 17087 Valley Ave., Bloomfield.
The Davis County baseball and softball teams host Albia Monday night in South Central Conference action. The softball team begins at 5 p.m. and will play a freshman, junior varsity and varsity game. The baseball team will begin 5:30 p.m. and will play a varsity doubleheader. The softball team travels to Moravia on Tuesday with action beginning at 5:30 p.m. A junior varsity and varsity game will be played.
