Grassley discusses healthcare, deficit and more

U. S.Senator Charles Grassley was in Bloomfield Wednesday morning to talk with the Bloomfield Rotary Club and others about government issues. Grassley talked about issues concerning healthcare, social security, the national debt and much more. Topics discussed during the meeting were driven by questions from local residents.

Rain keeps coming

Cleanup from last week’s storm is pretty much complete. However, rains continue to dump on Davis County. Additional storms over the weekend created more flooding and other problems for county residents. Officially, Davis County has received 5.58 inches of rain since June 24 after severe storms an a pair of tornadoes ripped through the county.

Library committee seeks public input

The Bloomfield Public Library is seeking public input for a renovation project. The public is asked to complete a three-minute survey online at The building committee is looking to uncover some possible needs for the library that have not been thought of yet. The committee will obtain results from the survey by July 15.

Rodeo to begin this week

The Fort Bloomfield Rodeo will get underway later this week at the Davis County Fairgrounds. The annual rodeo brings in contestants from several Midwestern states. The rodeo begins Thursday and runs through Saturday night.

School approves budget

The Davis County School Board completed their 2015-2016 fiscal year budget Tuesday night. The board adjusted its budget to account for a 1.25 percent in supplemental state aid. The board reduced its tax asking for the management portion of the budget and will collect taxes at a rate of $15.97760 er $1,000 of taxable valuation. In other action, the board approved a contract agreement with the classified staff for a 3.7 percent overall increase and also hired Brittany Bresee as a high school science teacher.

Grassley to be in Bloomfield Wednesday

Senator Charles Grassley will be in Bloomfield Wednesday morning to meet  with the Bloomfield Rotary Club. The meeting will be at 6:45 a.m. at Southfork Grill. The public is invited to attend the meeting, which will be an informal meeting so that Grassley can discuss issued with constituents.

Mustangs beat Centerille in eight innings

The Mustang baseball team scored a 7-2 win over Centerville Tuesday night in a make-up game from last week. The game was tied 2-2 in the seventh inning after Centerville battled back. Davis County scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to get the win. Davis County travels to Chariton Thursday night for a varsity doubleheader. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.

Lady Mustangs lose to Moravia

The Lady Mustang softball team suffered an 8-2 loss to Moravia Tuesday night. Davis County had just two hits in the game and were led by Whitney Madden and Allison Gooden. Davis County returns to action Wednesday night with a game in Centerville. This game is a continuation of a game that was suspended by rain on June 29. Action begins at 5:30 p.m. Davis County is ahead 9-2 in this game and it will resume Wednesday night in the fourth inning of play. The Lady Mustangs travel to Chariton Thursday night for a South Central Conference game. Action begins at 5 p.m. with the freshman game. Junior varsity and varsity games will follow.
