Council approves early retirements

Early retirement plans were approved for Mike Humphrey and Garry Feldman at the Bloomfield City Council meeting Thursday night. Their positions will be posted Monday. The council approved hiring an attorney for advice on  regulations being imposed by the EPA on Bloomfield’s Waste Water Plant.
The council moved to approve job descriptions for several city employees. However, action on a job description for a part-time city hall clerk was tabled.

Board of Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The board will meet with secondary roads officials at 9 a.m. to discuss closing the road through Floris on June 4 for Flag Day. The board will also meet with Rick Davidson to discuss a streetscape update. The board will also meet with John Hansen and Mike Adkins to discuss a construction progress update on the new law center. They will also discuss change orders.

DC Fair Quilt blocks available

The Davis County Fair has announced its quilt block competition for 2016. Packets for the contest can be picked up at the Davis County Recorders office and at Upholstery and Sew Forth. The theme for this years contest is Stars and the deadline to return the quilt block is July 1.

Library board to meet Tuesday

The Bloomfield Public Library Board will meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the library. An architect from ASK Studios will discuss the building update and there will be a Construction Committee Report on a discussion with the Genealogy Society. The board will be developing a volunteer vetting process, and committee reports will be given.

Schooley is top story

Brooks Schooley of rural Bloomfield is battling Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and was born with it. Schooley is approaching a point in her life when a wheelchair and other mobility equipment have become needs she will realize very soon. Schooley and her husband James have entered a contest to win a handicapped mobility van and are asking the publics help in the form of online voting to help them have a chance to win it. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about Schooley, her medical condition and how the public can help. Other top stories include Ken Padget has spent his entire career keeping school children safe as the school districts bus mechanic. The city of Pulaski has installed a new weather warning siren. City council to meet Thursday night

The Bloomfield City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The council will discuss painting the new water tower, set a date for management employee reviews and will consider payments to contractors for construction of the water tower and retrofitting electric generation engines. The council will consider early retirement plans for Mike Humphrey and Garry Feldman and will discuss other personnel issues in regard to job postings and replacement.

Pulaski gets new storm-warning siren

The City of Pulaski and the Pulaski Fire Department have installed a new severe weather warning siren for the community. The community spent the last four years raising money to pay for the new siren. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the siren and the benefits it will bring to residents in the Pulaski area.

Robert Lee Bob Newton, 80, of Bloomfield died May 4 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. May 10 at the Wagler Funeral Home with Rev. Dee Wiley officiating. Burial with military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the Barker Cemetery in Scotland Co., Mo. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 667 and Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties.

Joe Dean Woolard

Joe Dean Woolard, 78, of Bloomfield died May 2 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Knox officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Bloomfield Country Club.

Lady Mustangs finish fifth in tourney

The Lady Mustang golf team finished fifth in the Lady Mohawk Invitational Thursday at Honey Creek. The girls shot a 440. Kelly Lynch led the effort with a 99. Briley Dixon shot a 110 and Bailey Spurgeon shot a 113.

Boys track team finished third in SCC

The Mustang boys track team finished third in the South Central Conference meet with 72 team points. Caleb Cowles won the high jump with a jump of 6-4.

Girls track team finishes third

The Lady Mustang track team finished third overall Thursday night at the South Central Conference Track Meet. Knoxville won the meet followed by Albia and Davis County. The Lady Mustangs scored 94 points. Jaylynn Sharp scored the only first place finish for Davis County as she won the long jump.
