DC Trails Council receives grant

The Davis County Trails Council has been given a $10,000 grant to facilitate the development, construction, and on-going maintenance of a multi-use recreational trail in Davis County.

The trail will be used for walking, running, bicycling, roller blading, and even cross-country skiing.

The grant is administered through the Co-Bank “Sharing Success” matching grant program and celebrates the role that electric cooperatives play in the U.S. rural economy and in individual communities across the country.

Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative made the matching funds for this grant as a community investment.

City looking to raise water rates

Water rates will be raised in Bloomfield. The Bloomfield City Council is looking at a plan to increase water rates to help pay for improvements to the city’s water system and the switch to Rathbun Regional Water Association.

The council is looking at a plan that would raise the minimum bill to $22.48, which would also include the first 1,000 gallons of water used. The council is also looking at an increase to $9.87 as a charge to customers for each 1,000 gallons of water used beyond the first 1,000 gallons.

The council has had one public hearing to discuss the matter and will have two more before the new rates become effective.
