A bond referendum asking taxpayers to spend $5.8 million to construct a new Davis County Law Center passed Tuesday night with a 72.47 percent approval vote. The referendum needed a minimum of 60 percent approval to pass. Out of 912 ballots cast, 661 people voted in favor of the referendum, while 251 people voted against it. The following are the vote totals by precinct. Bloomfield-197, yes; 63 no. Central precinct- 60, yes; 43, no; Northeast precinct- 52, yes; 47, no. Northwest precinct- 55, yes; 27, no. Southeast precinct- 91, yes; 38, no. Southwest precinct- 40, yes; 17, no. Absentee- 166, yes; 36, no. Total votes- 661, yes; 251, no.
With 72.47 percent of the vote, the Davis County Law Enforcement Center Referendum passed Tuesday night. A total of 661 of the 912 votes cast, voted in favor of spending $5.8 million to construct a new facility. There were 251 who voted against it. The Davis County Sheriff’s Office will now finalize a land purchase. The bidding process will begin soon. Construction should begin later this year or in early 2016. The facility should be open for use before the end of 2016.
Roger Blew is facing two counts of animal abuse in Missouri following a rescue mission by Missouri authorities at Blew’s property in Glenwood, Mo. Authorities rescued approximately 200 animals from the property, in which Blew is accused of hoarding them. Other top stories include Steve O’Grady rappels down a 25 story building. The Bloomfield-Davis County Public Safety Commission discussed jail ownership. Bloomfield Main Street was recently recognized for outstanding achievements.
Sandra Elaine Lawrence, 62, of rural Bloomfield passed away May 5 at her home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with her son, Jeff Lawrence, officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at the Savannah Cemetery in Davis County at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the family present from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to HCI Hospice Care Services in Centerville.
Ruby Laviece Weilbrenner, 94, of Bloomfield passed away May 3 at the Bloomfield Care Center. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday May 8 at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Schuyler County, Mo., with Pastor Kramer Smith officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Salvation Army. The Lady Mustang golf team beat Moravia Tuesday in a dual meet. Davis County shot 216 while Moravia shot a 283. The girls return to Moravia Thursday for the Mohawk Invitational Tournament. Action begins at 1 p.m.
