Campaign signs missing

At least 20 Trump signs and 4 Hillary yard signs were reported stolen or vandalized Wednesday morning. Police Chief Shawn Armstrong says misdemeanor charges could be filed in such instances for theft, vandalism, and trespassing. The actions also violate the property owners freedom of speech. Armstrong said: It would be pretty silly to risk a criminal record for such mischief.

Council to meet Thursday night

The Bloomfield City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The council will consider bids to pave Anderson Street. They will consider Internet enabled thermostats for city facilities, consider the scope of services and a fee estimate for additional work on the library renovation, discuss on-bill financing, consider a quote to move the Library, and consider a proposal for locally owned wind-generated electricity, consider advertising for bidds to sell trucks and equipment and consider adding a firefighter to the local department. The council will also consider funding for the Davis County Development Corporation.

Three arrested on drug charges

Aron Jackson, 32, Casey Byrd, 37 and George Bragg, 37 of rural Davis County were arrested following a search warrant that was conducted at 16534 276th Street in Davis County. The warrant was executed on Oct. 6. Law enforcement officials found marijuana, THC oil, THC wax, methamphetamine, mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, and 10 firearms. The three men face multiple charges including possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, possession of a control substance, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and more. The Sheriff's office was assisted by the Southeast Iowa Inter-agency Drug Task Force, South Central Iowa Drug Task Force and the South Central Iowa Special Operations Group. The investigation is ongoing. Since being arrested, Bragg has bonded out of jail. Jackson and Byrd remain in custody.

Three arrested following burglary investigation

A Bloomfield woman and two Ottumwa men have been charged in connection with a burglary that was reported to the Davis County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 7. The burglary took place in the 30,000 block of 173rd Street in Davis County. The property is owned by Dennis Schintler of Iowa City. Multiple items including a motorcycle, four wheelers, a car, tools, firearms and much more was taken from the property. The Davis County Sheriff's Office conducted a search warrant on a storage unit in Ottumwa where they were able to recovered many of the items on Oct. 8. As a result of the search warrant, Jenny Molle of Bloomfield, Kyle Palmer of Ottumwa and Chaiaadian Rogers of Ottumwa have been arrested and charged with multiple offenses. The investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be released at a later date.

School enrollment is top story

School enrollment at the Davis County Schools continues to rise. Superintendent Dan Maeder reported to the board Monday night that enrollment is up compared to last year and that open enrollment figures continue to favor students coming into the district compared to students going elsewhere for education services. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the enrollment. Other top stories include arrests have been made in a burglary and drug related case investigated earlier this month. State and local officials met last week to discuss plans for Bloomfields future. In sports, read about the successes of the Mustang sports teams over the past week.

Choir concert set for Thursday

The Davis County Middle School and High School Choirs will present a concert Thursday night at the Davis County Middle School. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the middle school gymnasium.

Trick-or-Treat space available for organizations

Davis County groups or organizations that want to offer Halloween treats on the square between 5:30 and 7 p.m. Oct. 31 should contact Lyn Davidson at the Main Street office, 664-2309, for assistance in locating available space. The event also involves a costume contest for businesspersons distributing treats. The event is sponsored by Main Streets Image Committee.

Mustangs to face Albia Friday night

The Mustang football team will end its 2016 season Friday night with  game at Albia. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. Both Albia and Davis County are 1-5 in Class 2A District 6 play. Davis County is currently 2-6 while Albia is 1-7 after eight games.

Lady Mustangs advance

The Lady Mustang volleyball team scored a 3-0 win over Albia Wednesday night in the opening round of the Class 3A Region 8 Tournament. Davis County won by set scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-9. With the win, Davis County advances to face Central Lee on OCt. 25 at 7 p.m. in Donnelson. Central Lee advanced after beating West Burlington 3-2 in that match.

Cross country teams to run in district race Thursday

The Davis County cross country teams travel to Pella Thursday for the Class 2A District Cross Country Meet. Action begins at 3 p.m. with the girls' race. The boys' race will follow. The start time was set at 3 p.m. because Class 3A district races are also being run on the same course that afternoon. The races will be held on the Central College Cross Country Course, which is located on the west side of the Central College campus in Pella.
