School board to meet Monday night

The Davis County School board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday night, Oct. 20. The board will consider contracts, resignations, hear an IASB Group Dividend presentation, conduct a public hearing on the innovative calendar, hear information on enrollment and approve a representative to the Davis County Day Care Board.

The board will also consider a high school baseball out-of-state request, a SAFE room contract, approve a fuel purchase from the Davis County Treasurer and an FFA fruit purchase.

School lunch menus for Oct. 21--Breakfast: Pancakes with syrup. Lunch: Cheesy Mustang bread with marinara, steamed broccoli, pears and strawberries and milk.

City approves water revenue loan notes

The Bloomfield City Council approved a resolution Thursday night to issue water revenue capital loan notes in the amount of $3.5 million to help finance the city’s plans to hook up to Rathbun Rural Water. The vote was taken Thursday night following a public hearing.

The council also agreed to participate in an Iowa Department of Energy Management Program Grant. Butch Priester was appointed to the Bloomfield Historic Preservation Commission.

East Street intersection closed Friday

DPW Ted Henderson announced Friday that the East Street intersection will be closed Friday and will remain closed until the end of the project. This leaves no access for residents who live between East Street and Brown Street forcing them to park either one of those two streets.

The closing of the East Street intersection also cuts off full access to the high school parking lot, which means students will have to park in the pool parking and in other locations.

Deaths

Marilyn L. Ridgeway

Marilyn L. Ridgeway, 79, of rural Bloomfield died Friday, October 17, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with Rev. Jesse Hill officiating. Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with family present from 4-6 p.m. A private family burial will be in Pittsburg Cemetery west of Keosauqua.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of Wapello/Davis Counties or the Pittsburg Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 17689 Varnish Trail, Bloomfield, IA 52537.

Baseball/Softball scoreboards

Volleyball team finishes 2-1 at Fairfield

The Lady Mustang volleyball team finished 2-1 Saturday in the Fairfield Round Robin Tournament. Davis County scored wins over PCM and Centerville but lost to Fairfield during the day.

The tournament ended the regular season for Davis County. The Lady Mustangs don’t play again until the first round of the Class 3A Regional Tournament on Oct. 27. Davis County will host Centerville in that first round match.

Mustangs beat Centerville, win pennant game

The Mustang football team improved to 2-6 following 26-15 win over Centerville last Friday night.

The Mustangs broke a 7-7 tie in the third quarter and scored 19 second-half points to beat Centerville and bring home the Pennants from the Pennant game.

The Mustangs will spend this week preparing for Keokuk on Friday night. The game will be the Mustangs’ final regular season game of the 2014 season.
