Council to move forward with city administrator position

The Bloomfield City Council agreed Thursday night to hire Callahan Municipal consultants to begin a search for employment candidates for a city administrator position. The council approved several construction payments and approved storage components for evidence storage at the new law center.They also approved the purchase of office furniture for the police department as they move into the new law center.

Supervisors to meet monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday. The board will meet with custodian Randy Norman at 8:50 a.m. They will meet with secondary roads officials at 9 a.m. and will also meet with Ernie Bohi regarding a Davis County Hospital program.

Art show to feature local artists, photographers and writers

The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Outreach Committee and the Spectrum Center for the Arts are teaming up to sponsor a Davis County Art Show through Jan, 1, 2017. The show will be held at the church and will feature work from Deb Baughman, Jeani Leyda, Gin Lammert, Terri McDougall, Lori Chaplin, Brenda Boatman and a photography exhibit from Linda Rowe. The show will also feature art work, poetry and short stories created by students in the Davis County Schools. The show will be open Nov. 26-27 from noon-2 p.m. It will be open every Thursday in December from 4-7 p.m. and every Sunday from noon-2 p.m.

I CARE program gets underway

The annual I CARE program got underway last week and is working to secure donations of food, gifts and money to help facilitate the program for the 2017 holiday season. The I CARE angel tree has been erected at Keith's Foods with many angel ornaments available for adoption. The program helps more than 200 kids, 100 families and 25 adults have a better Christmas holiday through the donation of gifts and food. Local woman escapes scary situation

Bloomfield and Davis County residents please be careful. A rural Bloomfield woman has reported she was approached early Monday afternoon at Route 63 Quik Stop while getting gas. She was approached by a man wearing jacket who asked her if she wanted to smell some perfume. A second man walked inside the business while this was going on. The woman refused to smell the perfume, but later reported there were two men who drove away in a white Toyota SUV. The man who approached her was a younger Caucasian male. The second man, also Caucasian, was an older man. The vehicle is a white Toyota SUV with Iowa License ANX 237. It is a Polk County Plate. Bloomfield Police officers were alerted to the incident and are trying to locate the vehicle. In the meantime, officers are encouraging local residents, especially women, to be careful and refuse to smell anything, if it is offered. Anyone who is approached by these men is asked to contact the Bloomfield Police Department at 664-2700 immediately.

School board to meet Wednesday

The Davis County School Board will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the board room at the administrative offices. the agenda calls for the board to discuss facility improvement recommendations and a general obligation bond referendum.

Fall harvest deemed best ever

The 2016 fall harvest has been deemed as one of the best ever Davis County Harvests. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about what local grain elevators have seen in terms of crop yields this year. Other top stories include the Davis County School Foundation has earned its non-profit designation and is ramping up fundraising efforts to help the school district. Dr, Sean Brodale announced this week that he will be closing his private practice.

"Its a Wonderful Life" begins Thursday

The Davis County Players production of "Its a Wonderful Life" will open Thursday night at the Iowa Theatre. Productions will be held Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. each night. The final performance will be at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Tickets are on sale at Perfect Touch. Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the door during each performance.

School board agrees to February bond issue

The Davis County School Board met Wednesday night to discuss moving forward with a bond issue to update facilities. The board had lengthy discussions about existing facilities and also discussed how to proceed with a bond issue. The board discussed facility needs and various ways to fund updates. Plans are to put together another bond issue to put before a public vote in February.

Barbara Laux

Barbara Laux, 85, of Bloomfield passed away on Nov. 30, 2016 at Bloomfield Care Center. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Donna Olinger officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday Dec. 2, from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. Interment will be in Exline Cemetery. Memorials may be given to family or to St. Mary's Orphanage of Chicago. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.scom.

Mustang hoops teams to host Centerville Friday

The Davis County boys and girls basketball teams will host Centerville Friday night in South Central Conference action. Games being played at the Davis County High School will include the junior varsity girls at 5 p.m., varsity girls at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity boys at 7:30 p.m. The junior varsity boys will play at the middle school at 6:15 p.m. followed by the freshman boys at 7:30 p.m.

Mustang wrestlers travel to Centerville

The Mustang wrestling team will travel to Centerville Thursday night for a double dual meet with Centerville, Fairfield and Keokuk. Action begins at 6 p.m. and will feature varsity and junior varsity matches.
