Chelgren to be in Bloomfield Saturday

Iowa State Senator Mark Chelgren will host a public forum Saturday at 2 p.m. The public forum will be held at Copy Cupp’n Keyboard. The public is invited to come and talk with Chelgren about concerns with state government.

Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The board will meet with secondary roads at 9 a.m. and will host a budget amendment hearing at 10 a.m. The board will consider purchasing cabinets for Davis Center at 10:15 a.m. consider the Soap Creek Watershed Management 28E agreement at 10:20 a.m. and meet with Diane Buss at 10:30 a.m. The board will meet at 11 a.m. with Dan Hutchings to discuss cemetery access.

Anhydrous tank accident is top story

County and state emergency services personnel responded to an accident involving an overturned anhydrous tank South of Drakesville last week. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the spill, how it happened and the work it took to clean it up. Other top stories this week include Jim Carlisle was the featured speaker Monday at the annual Memorial Day ceremony. Dr. Ron Graeff talks about his decision to practice medicine in Davis County. In sports, Kate Birchmier won the Class 2A shot put again last week and also set a new record with her toss of 43-9 in the state meet.

State prohibits public exhibits of poultry and fowl

The Iowa Department of Agriculture this week announced that live bird exhibitions will be prohibited at county fairs across Iowa and the Iowa State Fair during the summer of 2015. The order also prohibits live birds from being sold at livestock auction markets, swap meets and exotic sales. The decision was made in response to the avian flue epidemic that has surfaced in Iowa.

Building committee to discuss facilities Thursday afternoon

The building committee of the Davis County School Board will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The committee will continue discussions concerning facility options and creating a plan to upgrade both athletic facilities and academic buildings.

Esther Rinkenberger

Esther S. Rinkenberger, 96, of Peoria, Ill. and former resident of Bloomfield, died May 27 at the Apostolic Christian Skylines Home in Peoria. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bloomfield Apostolic Christian Church with church ministers officiating. Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Apostolic Skylines Home, 7023 NE Skyline Dr., Peoria, IL 61614.

Baseball/Softball scoreboards

Baseball, softball teams to host Centerville Friday night

The Mustang baseball and softball teams will both be in action Friday night. The baseball team will host Centerville in a varsity doubleheader. Action begins at 5:30 p.m. The softball team will also host Centerville. Action begins at 5 p.m. with a freshman game. The junior varsity and varsity games will follow. On Saturday, The Mustang baseball team hosts the Davis County Classic. Davis County will host Fairfield, Keokuk and Van Buren. The Mustangs will open play at 10 a.m. The Lady Mustang softball team will host Twin Cedars at 10 a.m. Saturday.
