Jail construction concerns is top story

The Davis County Board of Supervisors discussed faulty concrete panels built to be part of the new Davis County Jail. Up to 34 panels will be replaced before work can continue. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the problem and the discussion held Monday with the supervisors concerning the issue. Other top stories include the Pulaski Firefighters recently underwent training for its many volunteers. MPA Computers recently completed an exterior remodeling project. Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday at 8:30 a.m. The board will consider a resolution to revise the county five-year plan, and discuss a possible temporary engineer sharing agreement with Van Buren County. The board will meet with Mike Johnson regarding a position title change and salary increase for one employee. They will meet with Jane Harris regarding mental health issues. They will consider health insurance changes, a Davis Center fireworks display, a temporary loan repayment, approve the 2016-17 levy sheet, compensation board representatives, discuss the courthouse custodial position and meet with Midwest Construction Consultants regarding the new Davis County Jail.

Children's play to begin Friday night

The Davis County Childrens Theater production of Stories under the Big Top will be held Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. each night. Performances begin at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Theatre.

Hairy Nation Days well attended

Heat and humidity didn’t stop large crowds from attending Hairy Nation Days this weekend in Bloomfield. Several activities were well attended all throughout Davis County during the day on Saturday. A huge crowd gathered on the square Saturday night for the Standing Hampton Concert and during Sunday mornings worship service.

Supervisors discuss jail construction

The Davis County Board of Supervisors heard some bad news Monday concerning the construction of the new jail. Construction was halted due to problems with the concrete panels that were cracking. Construction Manager John Hanson told the board that the vendor is re-pouring approximately 34 of the panels and there are six to seven already erected on the construction site that will need to be replaced. Hanson told the board that the project should be able to remain on schedule despite the setback. Hanson also said the sanitary system is in place and has been checked. He said the system would be checked again at a later date.

The Mustang baseball team returns to action Wednesday night with a varsity doubleheader at Clarke. Action begins at 5 p.m.

Lady Mustangs lose to Moravia, face Clarke Wednesday

The Lady Mustang softball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Moravia Tuesday night. Davis County held a 1-0 lead until the top of the seventh inning. Moravia scored all three of its runs with one-out in the seventh inning to get the victory. Davis County returns to action Wednesday night with games at Clarke of Osceola. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. with the freshman game. The junior varsity and varsity games will follow.
