“Rock Around the Clock” to be Sunday afternoon

Bloomfield Main Street will be hosting “Rock Around the Clock” in the courtyard Sunday afternoon.

The courthouse clockworks will be returned by repairman Rory DeMesy on Sunday and he will be present to show the inner workings of the clock and explain them to the public starting at 4 p.m.

From 5-8 p.m. the public will be able to roast hotdogs and marshmallows over fire pits on the courtyard drive. There will be no charge for the food and soda.

The 12-ft. replica of the jukebox built for the 2003 RAGBRAI will be moved to the courtyard for the occasion and children’s games will be sponsored by Main Street.

The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the event.

The clockworks will be installed in the clock tower Monday morning

Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The board will meet with custodian Russell Lundstrum at 8:50 a.m.

The secondary roads department will meet at 9 a.m. to discuss payment of the Berryman/SIDCA project, a speed limit change on Nuthatch between 215th Street and Highway 2. They will discuss bridge issues with Charlie Scott and sign a funding agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation in regard to the Polkey Bridge.

The board will meet with Lynn Fellinger at 10 a.m. in regard to health screenings and with CPC Diane Buss at 10:30 to discuss mental health issues.

School board to meet Monday night

The Davis County Community School Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15.

The agenda calls for the board to hold its annual meeting.

The board will also consider contracts, resignations, certified staff salary, lane changes, a request to purchase books, a middle school uniform request, the innovative calendar committee, and policy review.

The board will also discuss an operational sharing agreement for human resources with Van Buren and Cardinal School Districts.

Hospital board to meet

The Davis County Hospital Board will hold their regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in Conference Room D at the hospital.

The board held two closed sessions this past week to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered.

Mustangs to host C-M-B Friday night

The Mustang football team will begin Class 2A District 7 football play Friday night. Davis County Hosts C-M-B, Baxter with a single varsity game beginning played at 7:30 p.m.

C-M-B, Baxter comes into the game with a 2-0 record after scoring wins over West Marshall and Roland-Story. Davis County is 0-2 after non-district play suffering losses to Fairfield and Chariton.

Storm causes damage

Lightning caused power outages in the south and west sections of Bloomfield  last night.

Hamilton Produce suffered a lightning strike, which exploded the meter on the exterior of the building.  Ray Murrell reported that power was restored to the business by mid-morning.

The Bloomfield Democrat also suffered damage from the lightning strike as one computer and two large printers were ruined. The office was also without Internet for a while as were other local businesses and residences.

'Rock Around the Clock' in courtyard Sunday

Bloomfield Main Street will be hosting “Rock Around the Clock” from 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the courtyard.

Clock repairman Rory DeMesy will be returning the courthouse clock to Bloomfield that afternoon. He will have the clockworks on display in the courtyard during the event so that the public may come and see the inner workings of the clock and learn how it works.

The clock will be taken to the top of the courthouse Monday morning for installation.

With the help of 13 business sponsors, free hot dogs and marshmallows will be available for the public to roast in fire pits on the courtyard drive.

There will also be children’s games, and the gigantic jukebox built for 2003 RAGBRAI will also be on display.

Property deed scam announced

Davis County Recorder Megan Clyman is urging local residents to be cautious if they receive a mailing asking if they want a copy of their land or property deeds.

There are companies trying to prey on constituents, she said, by selling them copies of their own deeds. Clyman said anyone receiving such a letter or who has already sent money for this service should visit her office for help in working with the Attorney General’s Office.

Ida May Lundstrum

Ida May Lundstrum, 90, of Bloomfield, Iowa died September 12, 2014 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Wagler Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Martin officiating. Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established to the Eldon Christian Church. Online condolences may be directed to

Hougland, girls team win Lake Fisher meet

Zach Hougland won the individual championship Thursday night in the Lake Fisher Invitational.

Hougland led the Mustangs to a second place finish behind Albia. Albia beat the Mustangs by just three points in the meet.

The Lady Mustangs won the team championship in the girls’ race.

Davis County returns to action Tuesday at the Van Buren Invitational, which was rescheduled after being postponed earlier this week. Tuesday’s meet will begin at 5 p.m. at the Riverview Country Club In Keosauqua.
