Feasibility committee considering locations

The Davis County Jail Feasibility Committee is still working on choosing a site for the proposed jail construction. The committee has an offer from Southern Iowa Electric to purchase land near that facility but is also considering a site within the city limits that has also been identified as a possible location. The committee agreed Thursday night to explore the possibility of purchasing the ground in Bloomfield for the building site.

Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The board will consider a letter of support for the Drakesville Betterment Committee, meet with hospital officials in regard to the budget and host a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. for a new hog confinement facility.

Representative Curt Hanson will host a public forum Saturday at noon. The forum will be held at Rancho Centinela and everyone is invited to come and discuss state legislative issues.

School board to begin contract negotiations

The Davis County School board will hold a special meeting Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. The board will meet with the Davis County Community Education Association bargaining unit. The board is expected to receive an initial contract proposal from the teacher’s union to begin contract negotiations.

Brodale proposes change to hospital gun policy

Dr. Sean Brodale hosted a meeting Tuesday night to talk about changing hospital policy to allow guns in the hospital. Several community members showed up to hear the discussion. Brodale discussed previous hospital shooting incidents in other communities and proposed the change to allow guns in the facility for protection of staff and patients. Several people expressed concerns both for and against the issue, which will have to be presented to the hospital board before final approval.

Teachers begin contract talks

The Davis County School board met with the teachers union Wednesday to begin contract negotiations. The teachers presented a contract proposal calling for a 6.9 percent wage increase, including base salary, and longevity incentives. The proposal included proposed changes to personal leave and severance pay. The board accepted the proposal but didn’t offer any response.

Harold Rex Wintermote

Harold Rex Wintermote, 79, of Bloomfield died Feb. 20. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bloomfield Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Wintermotes body has been donated to the University of Iowa. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date. Memorials have been established.
