City council to meet Thursday night

The Bloomfield City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The council will discuss painting the new water tower, set a date for management employee reviews and will consider payments to contractors for construction of the water tower and retrofitting electric generation engines. The council will consider early retirement plans for Mike Humphrey and Garry Feldman and will discuss other personnel issues in regard to job postings and replacement.

Pulaski gets new storm-warning siren

The City of Pulaski and the Pulaski Fire Department have installed a new severe weather warning siren for the community. The community spent the last four years raising money to pay for the new siren. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the siren and the benefits it will bring to residents in the Pulaski area.

DC Fair Quilt blocks available

The Davis County Fair has announced its quilt block competition for 2016. Packets for the contest can be picked up at the Davis County Recorders office and at Upholstery and Sew Forth. The theme for this years contest is Stars and the deadline to return the quilt block is July 1.

Library board to meet Tuesday

The Bloomfield Public Library Board will meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the library. An architect from ASK Studios will discuss the building update and there will be a Construction Committee Report on a discussion with the Genealogy Society. The board will be developing a volunteer vetting process, and committee reports will be given.

Schooley is top story

Brooks Schooley of rural Bloomfield is battling Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and was born with it. Schooley is approaching a point in her life when a wheelchair and other mobility equipment have become needs she will realize very soon. Schooley and her husband James have entered a contest to win a handicapped mobility van and are asking the publics help in the form of online voting to help them have a chance to win it. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about Schooley, her medical condition and how the public can help. Other top stories include Ken Padget has spent his entire career keeping school children safe as the school districts bus mechanic. The city of Pulaski has installed a new weather warning siren. Foreign exchange student Ellen Huang won the best of show award in last weeks art show. In sports, read about the successes of the Davis County sports teams over the past week.

Joe Dean Woolard

Joe Dean Woolard, 78, of Bloomfield died May 2 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Knox officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church and the Bloomfield Country Club.

The Lady Mustang golf team returns to The Preserve at Honey Creek Thursday for the Lady Mohawk Invitational. The 18-hole tournament will begins at noon. The boys golf team travels to Chariton for the Charger Invitational beginning at 1 p.m.The boys and girls tennis teams will face Albia Thursday afternoon. The boys travel to Albia while the girls host Albia. Meets at both locations begin at 4:15 p.m. The boys and girls track teams will both be at Eddyville Thursday afternoon for the South Central Conference meet. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
