Bloomfield Senior Citizens Center menus for Oct. 30--Baked chicken, baked potato, sour cream, broccoli with cheese and a banana half. Activities: Wii games at 9-11:30 a.m. Exercise at 9:30 a.m. Peek-a-boo poker at 12:30 p.m.

Priesters awarded Challenge Grant

With the help of Bloomfield Main Street, Butch and Lois Priester of Bloomfield recently received a $75,000 challenge grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The grant will be used in the remodeling and rehabilitation of buildings the Priesters own on the west side of the Bloomfield square.

The Priesters are awaiting final approval of the drawings before work can get started on their project. The grants require matching funds from the Priesters toward their project completion.

Several attend open house

Between 30 and 40 people attended an open house at the Davis County High School Friday night to look at the district’s facilities.

The public toured the gymnasium, locker rooms, wrestling room, weight room, music facilities and had a chance to look at the building and track.

Former instructor and athletic director Dennis Anderson led the tour and talked to the group about the needs of the school district and the community to upgrade its facilities.

Police seek public's help to solve hit and run

The Bloomfield Police Department is looking for the public’s help in solving a hit and run accident, which took place last week.

Police say a delivery truck struck the office building housing the Davis County Veteran’s Affairs Department. The building received damage as portions of the brick were knocked off. A handicapped railing was also damaged.

Police have a piece of the trailer from the delivery truck that broke off and was left at the scene. They have no other major leads to help solve the accident.

Anyone who might have seen the accident is urged to contact the police department at 664-2700. Police say the accident happened some time between Wednesday night, Oct. 22 and Friday morning, Oct. 24

Shirley M. Howard

Shirley M. Howard, 90, of Bloomfield, Iowa died Oct. 26, 2014 at the Bloomfield Care Center. 

A private family graveside service will be held at the Drakesville Cemetery at a later date with Pastor R. J. Montis officiating.

A memorial has been established for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to

Lady Mustangs to face Mediapolis Thursday

The Lady Mustang volleyball team returns to action Thursday night in the semi-final round of the Class 3A Region 8 tournament. Davis County will face Mediapolis at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The match will be played at Mediapolis.
