Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The Board will consider estimates for a handicap ramp at the DHS building. They will discuss disposal of old window air conditioners and consider a rental agreement with SIEDA. The board will also talk with Kirby Moss in regard to an insurance renewal.

Candidates announced

Candidates for the June Primary Election have been announced. Four people will be battling for a chance to take over Dale Taylors seat on the Davis County Board of Supervisors. They include democrats Allan Bodkins and Dan Hutchings. Republican candidates include Adam D. Bridgman and Alan Yahnke. Auditor Linda Humphrey and Sheriff Dave Davis are seeking re-election and running unopposed on the democratic ballot for their offices. No republican candidates have filed nomination papers. State Representative Curt Hanson is seeking re-election to his seat in the Iowa Legislature. He is running unopposed. There are no candidates seeking election to his seat on the Republican ballot.

Burlington men arrested following local pursuit

The Bloomfield Police Department arrested two Burlington men Sunday following a pursuit that ended  at the intersection of Highway 63 and Chestnut Street in Bloomfield. Michael D. Angelo Garfield, 35 of Burlington and Tony Terrell Brown, 36, of Burlington were arrested and charged with multiple traffic violations, drug charges and weapons charges. Police found a loaded weapon in the vehicle, drugs and $15,000 in cash. Garfield and Brown are both being held in the Davis County Jail on those charges.

Retail sales increase in Davis County

Reports from Iowa State University show that retail sales have increased significantly in Davis County since 2011. The report shows taxable retail sales per capita have risen from $5,302 in 2011 to $7,147 in 2015. Mid American Energy hosting meeting Wednesday

Mid American Energy is hosting a public meeting in Bloomfield Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Mutchler Community Center. The company is proposing to construct a 345,000 volt electric transmission line in Appanoose, Davis and Wapello Counties and will be connecting to an existing line at the Iowa/Missouri border. The line will cross public and private property. Wednesdays meeting is an informational meeting so that local residents affected by the construction may learn more about the project.

Road repairs announced by county

The Davis County Secondary Roads Department announced this week that numerous roads and bridges will see repairs. Assistant County Engineer Ryan Schock reported that 1,922 ton of rock has been hauled in for Davis County’s gravel roads. Application of the rock began this week and will cover 88 miles of roads at a cost of $500,000. The airport road bridge is being repaired. Bridges on Impala Trail and Peach Avenue will receive abutment repairs. A bridge on Quill Avenue is being replaced by pipe. Erosion issues are being repaired near a bridge on Clay Avenue south of Monterey and a bridge on the Monterey blacktop road.

Library reaches fundraising goal

The Bloomfield Library Board announced earlier this week that the library has exceeded its fundraising campaign goal of $500,000. In the last six months, the campaign generated $526,000 in private donations to renovate and extend the facility.

Middle school concert is Thursday

The Davis County Middle School band and choir programs will host their spring concert Thursday night. The fifth and sixth grade concert will take place at 6 p.m. in the middle school gymnasium. The seventh and eighth grade concert will begin at 7:15 p.m. Thursday night.

Gary L. Foster, 72, of rural Bloomfield died April 28 at the Bloomfield Care Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 2 at the Wagler Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Axtell officiating. Girls tennis team wins, then loses

The Lady Mustang tennis team scored a 9-0 victory over Holy Trinity of Fort Madison on April 25. Clarke beat the Lady Mustang tennis team 7-2 Thursday night. Jordyn Thompson scored the only singles victory.

Golf team finishes third

The Lady Mustang golf team finished third Thursday night in a triangular meet at Centerville. Centerville won the meet with a 178. Chariton finished second with a 187 and Davis County shot a 222. Bailey Spurgeon led the effort with a 51. Briley Dixon shot a 52 and Kelly Lynch shot a 58.
