Council sets hearing for parks ordinances changes

The Bloomfield City Council set a public hearing for Aug. 4 to discuss possible changes to an ordinance governing boat access to Lake Fisher and other parks related issues. The council extended the CDBG water main replacement grant due to grant funds still remaining to be spent. The council approved several custom incentive applications for lighting changes in businesses. The Council approved $4,000 to be given to the Davis County Development Corporation with the possibility of additional funds being freed up in the near future.

Police to purchase new investigative software

The Bloomfield Police Department recently secured a grant to purchase software, which will aid in extracting information off of cell phones during a police investigation. The software can break security codes on cell phones as well as extract call information, text messages,photos and more from phones. The software will help improve the speed and efficiency of police department investigations.

Supervisors revisit ramp, courtyard drainage issues

The Davis County Supervisors opened up discussion on the proposed handicap ramp access to the courthouse as well as correcting drainage problems in the courtyard Monday morning. Both items were left in limbo when the supervisors pulled $30,000 in funding from the streetscape project May 23 when the City Council voted to convert Highway 63 to three lanes through Bloomfield. The projects will be readdressed in August with hopes of reaching a decision on how to proceed before the streetscape project goes up for bids in early September.

Drakesville Reunion festivities start Thursday

The Drakesville Reunion opens Thursday night with a tractor pull at 6 p.m. and the queen contest at 6:30 p.m. A talent show follows at 8 p.m. Bingo begins at 8 p.m. Rides by Tom Rhoade's Amusement Assoc. will be running all night.

Mary Louise Short

Mary Louise Short of Milton died July 26 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Milton. Visitation with family will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. Memorials to Milton Alumni Association, Sunnyside Cemetery or Hospice of Central Iowa may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 709 Union Street, Milton, IA 52570. Pedrick Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
