Several attend Priester open house

Over 150 people attended the open house for the Priester Building on the west side of the square Saturday. The renovation project has been nearly a year in the making and was partially financed by a Main Street Challenge grant. The facade was revealed Friday when the plywood was removed to reveal a storefront very similar to the original.

Wilcox named good neighbor

Jeremy Wilcox was named a Good Neighbor by SIEC recently for his efforts in starting the Davis County Trails Council. Wilcox, an SIEC employee, will soon be moving to Colorado with his family.

Gas tax increase implemented Sunday

Davis County residents began paying 10 cents per gallon in additional gasoline taxes Sunday as the new state law took effect.

Feasibility committee considering locations

The Davis County Jail Feasibility Committee is still working on choosing a site for the proposed jail construction. The committee has an offer from Southern Iowa Electric to purchase land near that facility but is also considering a site within the city limits that has also been identified as a possible location. The committee agreed Thursday night to explore the possibility of purchasing the ground in Bloomfield for the building site.

Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The board will consider a letter of support for the Drakesville Betterment Committee, meet with hospital officials in regard to the budget and host a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. for a new hog confinement facility.
