Old Solders & Settlers Reunion to begin Thursday

The Davis County Old Soldiers and Settlers Reunion will begin Thursday in the Drakesville City Park. Activities begin at 6 p.m. with Toby’s Carnival and the tractor pull. An early-bird drawing will be held at 6:15 p.m. The Queen Contest will take place at 6:30 p.m. followed by a blackout bingo game at 7 p.m. The talent show will get underway at 8 p.m. followed by a drawing for prizes and a dance from 10 p.m. until midnight with music provided by Sparky’s Block Party.

Storm damge hits DC again

Davis County continues to see damage from thunderstorms. A storm late last week caused damage to a few homes in Western Davis County and downed power lines owned by Northeast Missouri Power Cooperative. Other top stories include: A public meeting to discuss a school bond issue will be held on Aug. 4. Joe Plowman and Don Walton recently completed 1,300-mile bike trip. A special section features complete results from the Davis County Fair and also includes more fair photos.

Baseball special edition published

The Bloomfield Democrat published a special edition Thursday for the Mustang baseball team and their trip to the Iowa State Baseball Tournament. The special edition was mailed to all newspaper subscribers and is also available at all news stand locations including Quick Time in Drakesville, A & J Quickmart in Floris, Pulaski Gas & Grill, Keiths Foods, Js One Stop, Highway 63 Quick Stop, Caseys General Store and at the Bloomfield Democrat offices. Team posters are also available at the Bloomfield Democrat office.

Storm causes damage Friday

A severe storm rolled through Davis County Friday afternoon causing problems for Bloomfield residents and also residents on the western side of Davis County. The entire city lost power for nearly an hour when an outage on supply lines from Northeast Missouri Power Cooperative went down. City officials turned on diesel generators for a while Friday afternoon until normal power could be restored. The severe storm also caused problems for Northeast Missouri Power in Davis County as transmission lines were downed in a storm northwest of Drakesville. Reports are that seven pole structures were damaged causing lines to go down. Storm damage could also be found at the home of Irelan and Marilyn McElderry and others northwest of Drakesville. The McElderrys lost several trees and experienced damage to a trailer that was flipped over onto other farm equipment during the storm.

Public meeting on school facilities scheduled for Aug. 4

The newly-formed School Improvement Committee will be hosting a public information meeting for the public on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 6 p.m. in the DC High School Commons. Committee members along with representatives of Struxture Architects, Story Construction, and Piper-Jaffray will present information on the proposed sports and music facility updates as well as financing. A 9.6 million dollar bond issue is scheduled for Sept. 8.

Mustangs beat Roland-Story advance to semi-finals

The Mustang baseball team advanced to the semi-finals of the Iowa State Baseball Tournament Tuesday following a 6-0 win over Roland Story. The game was delayed twice for a total of two hours due to rain. Jacob Jones struck out seven and allowed just two hits in the shutout win. Mac Chilton, Justin Utt, Mathew Hopkins and Nick Slayton had hits for the Mustangs. Davis County advanced to play Thursday night in the Class 2A Semi-Final game. The Mustangs will face Clear Lake who beat Treynor Monday night in a 5-0 victory. Thursday nights game between Davis County and Clear Lake will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Principal Park.
