Clinton, Trump win DC Caucus vote

Preliminary figures suggest that close to 800 Davis County residents participate in the Iowa Caucus Monday night in Bloomfield. The Democrats had close to 300 people caucusing while the republicans had more than 530 people attend its caucus. The democrats generated 58 percent support for Hillary Clinton as she won the county support. Republicans supported Donald trump with 38.6 percent of the vote.

Iowa Caucus is top story

Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features results from Monday night’s Iowa Caucus. Davis County Democrat put the majority of their support behind Hillary Clinton while the Republicans chose Donald Trump as their favorite to win the 2016 Presidential Election. More than 800 Davis County residents took part in the caucus with even more who attended just to observe the process. Other top stories include a citizens committee has agreed upon ballot language and has approved a proposed facilities bond issue for the Davis County School District. Cecil Reed has taken on the responsibility of running her own business in Davis County at the age of 23. In sports read about the girls and boys basketball teams who each picked up wins last week.

Committee agrees to ballot language for school bond issue

A citizens facility committee agreed Wednesday to ballot language, which will be presented for a proposed school bond issue. The committee discussed facilities once again Wednesday night and agreed to a proposed plan estimated to cost $6 million. The plan includes building a new track with no chances to the football turf, keeping the home football stands on the north side but adding handicapped accessible seating, using the most feasible option to renovate locker rooms, reducing cost of baseball/softball field development and reducing the cost of tennis court renovation. The district now needs to secure 376 signatures on a petition to present the ballot langue fort the bond issue. the school district will schedule and facilitate several educational meetings between now and the bond election to educate the voters about the proposed project.

Davis County Board of Supervisors

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday at 8:30 a.m. The board will host a public hearing to discuss vacating a portion of Vetch Ave. at 9 a.m.the board will meet with  library and tourism to discuss budget funding. The board will consider a pioneer cemetery ordinance, a dissemination agreement from Northland Securities, an insurance payment, discuss a passport update with Megan Clyman and consider a resolution adopting tax compliance procedures relating to tax-exempt bonds. The board will review office budgets at 1:30 p.m.

Caucuses scheduled for Monday night

Caucuses will be held Monday night in Bloomfield. The Democratic party caucus will be held at Davis County High School. The Republicans will hold their caucus at the Davis County Elementary/Middle School. Persons who are not registered voters or who wish to change political parties may register at the caucuses Monday evening.  Caucus participants must be registered or in line to register by 7 p.m.

Police to offer self-defense classes

The Bloomfield Police Department announced it will offer self-defense training classes that begin on Feb. 18. The class will be held at the Old School Social Center and will begin at 6 p.m. that first night. The course is free and offered to anyone age 14 and up. The class will be taught by local police officers. A free-will donation will be accepted for the class. Any proceeds collected will go toward the purchase of office equipment. Registration for the class is not required, but those planning to attend are encouraged to contact the police department by calling 664-2700 or pick up a form at their office in the Davis County Law Center.

The high school girls basketball games between Davis County and Washington scheduled for Tuesday night have been canceled. As of noon on Tuesday, no reschedule date has been announced.
