Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The board will meet with Randy Norman at 8:50 a.m. and will meet with secondary roads at 9 a.m. The board will host a public hearing at 10 a.m. to discuss a county watershed project. In other action, the board will meet with Megan Clyman to discuss courtyard Christmas decorations.They will discuss and employee wellness program an ordinance on a weapon free zone and will consider a change in the pay for election workers.

Pumpkin weigh-off to be held Saturday

A first annual giant pumpkin weigh-off will be held Saturday at the Davis County Fairgrounds. The weigh-off will be held from 10 a.m. until noon and anyone who grows giant pumpkins is encouraged to attend the event. The weigh-off will be held in the Blue Ribbon Barn on the Davis County Fairgrounds. The event is open to the public and people are encouraged to bring cameras and come have their pictures taken with the pumpkins.

Lake Wapello opens campround

Lake Wapello Campground will be open to the public on Sept. 30 and will be available for fall camping. The renovation features 47 reconstructed electric campsites with 13 full hook-ups. Each new camping pad has extended living space giving campers a dry level area for grills, tables and chairs. Reservations can be made now for 70 percent of the new electric campsites through the state part reservation system or by calling 1-877-427-2757.

City Council approves construction bid

The Bloomfield City Council approved a bid of $1.7 million to begin construction on the library project. Grooms construction of Ottumwa won the bid. Other top stories in Wednesday's Bloomfield Democrat include the hospital board learned that its annual audit was conducted without any deficiencies. Rod Lynch was named as the school board president for another year. Cameron Kenagy and his wife Jenny tell the story about their journey toward adopting a newborn baby.

Alumni band being formed

Former members of the Davis County High School Band are being sought to perform in an alumni band that will participate in the 42nd. annual Davis County Festival of Bands on Oct. 1. The band will practice during the morning on Oct. 1 and perform in exhibition at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at  Mustang Stadium. Justin Crady and Ashley Tuvera are organizing the group. Anyone interested is asked to email Crady at jac414@hotmail.com.

Ballot set for November election

The ballot has now been set for the 2016 General Election. Davis County Auditor Linda Humphrey released a list of candidates that will be on the ballot. Dan Hutchings will square off against Alan Yahnke in the race for Davis County Supervisor. Dave Davis is running unopposed in the race for sheriff and Humphrey is running unopposed in the race for Davis County Auditor. A story in Wednesday's Bloomfield Democrat features a full listing of candidates for all county offices on the ballot.

Mustangs to host Clarke Firday night

The Mustang football team returns to action Friday night hosting Clarke in a Class 2A District 6 battle. Clarke is 1-3 overall and 1-1 in district play. Davis County is 1-3 overall and is 0-2 in district play to this point. Friday night's game begins at 7:30 p.m. Senior night activities will also be held prior to the game.

Cross country teams compete at PCM

The Mustang boys' cross country team finished sixth in the PCM Invitational Thursday in Monroe. The boys scored 171 team points. The girls finished fifth at PCM scoring 133 team points. Doug Turner finished eighth for the boys. Sophie Spargur led the girls with a ninth place finish.
