Council discusses streetscape program

The Bloomfield City Council learned Thursday night that design work on the streetscape program should be complete by the spring of 2015. Council members learned that streets around the square would be narrowed and sidewalk space increased by up to four feet. An early projection on the cost of the project is $5.5 million.

The council approved the first reading of an ordinance calling for no parking on Franklin Street. The council approved set a date for a public hearing on Oct. 16 to discuss water revenue capital loan notes.

The council also discussed the possibility of closing Locust Street in front of the high school during the band festival on Oct. 4. No final decision was made because of the unknowns surrounding the street construction progress.

More concrete to be poured Monday on Franklin Street

Street construction crews will be pouring concrete starting Monday on the section of Franklin Street between Hillcrest and Brown Streets in Bloomfield. Crews will also be going back to the east end and pouring concrete for the storm sewer intakes to finish up the east end of the street.
