Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26. The board will meet with Alan Gravett at 9 a.m. to discuss Hedge Avenue and to discuss bid openings for bridge removals.

The board will meet with Doug Dixon at 9:55 a.m. to discuss a Main Street Budget request, and with Lois Abel-Priester at 10 a.m. to discuss a budget request for the Library.

The board will meet with Sedore Sanitation and Recycling at 10:15 a.m., discuss an electric banking contract with Success Bank at 10:50 a.m. and consider hiring a financial adviser for jail bonding at 11 a.m.

Pediatrician begins practice

Dr. Mary Graeff recently joined the Davis County Hospital Medical Associates. It’s been 30 years since Davis County has had a pediatrician in the community. Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat features a story about Graeff starting up her new practice.

SIEC gives back through Community Support Fund

Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative announced this week that it has given back more than $11,700 to the community during its first year of a Community Support Fund Program.

The program gives employees the choice of donating to the community support fund program through a “paid time off Leave” program. Employees may also volunteer to serve on committees and learn about community needs.

Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the program and what they have been able to do for the communities they serve.

Deaths

Karol Jane Collins

Karol Jane Collins, 72, of Bloomfield, died January 22, 2015 at the Hospice House in Ottumwa. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Charles Courtney officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to her family.  Online condolences may be directed to www.waglerfuneralhome.com.

Barbara Hurst

Barbara Hurst, 71, of Centerville, died at home on Jan. 16, 2015.

The memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 23, at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials have been established to the Centerville Lord’s Cupboard and Animal Lifeline of Iowa. Memorial contributions may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA 52544.

Davis County to face Knoxville Friday night

The Mustang boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will be in action Friday night facing Knoxville in South Central Conference action. All games will be played in Knoxville beginning at 5 p.m. the varsity girls’ game begins at 6:15 p.m. followed by the varsity boys’ game.
