Streetscape plan progressing

Streetscape plans for Bloomfield’s downtown are progressing as the two architectural firms, BNIM and CDF, and the local Streetscape Committee continue to meet and do the research necessary to finalize plans.

Architects have determined through soil samples that a deeper gravel bed will be needed for the new streets. As the soil is being studied, the architects are plotting the details for the infrastructure.

Officials are working with the Iowa Department of Transportation to study the possibilities for Highway 63 lane configuration along the east side of the square as well. The architects and the committee are also studying various possibilities for sidewalk configuration and the possibilities for amenities in the courtyard such as seating and stage placement.

A public meeting will be held on Sept. 18 to discuss the plans being developed.

Wednesday is deadline to file nomination papers

Anyone still wishing to run for a county-elected office who wasn’t on the June Primary ballot has just one day left to file papers with the Davis County Auditor’s office.

The filing period was Aug. 4 through Aug. 27. Papers must be filed in the Auditor’s office by 5 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Anyone wishing to run for a non-partisan office such as the Davis County Hospital Board, Davis County Soil and Water Conservation Board, Davis County Agricultural Extension Board, township trustees and township clerks must obtain nomination papers from the auditor’s office and get 50 signatures from local residents before filing those nomination papers.

Papers can also be obtained by visiting the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.iowa.gov/elections/candidates.

Anyone wishing to run for county offices such as the board of supervisors, county recorder and county treasurer may also take out and file nomination papers even though they weren’t on the ballot in June.

If nomination papers aren’t filed by 5 p.m. Wednesday, names will not be included on the November General Election ballot.

Davis County High School test scores improving

Bloomfield Country Club Manager Molly Piper is urging motorists to use caution when detouring through the Bloomfield Country Club.

Motorists are being detoured through the Bloomfield Country Club because of the Franklin Street construction project. The construction has cut off all residents east of Parkview Drive from the rest of the community leaving only the Bloomfield Country Club’s driveway as their only access in and out of that area of town.

Country Club officials fear for the safety of their patrons with the increased traffic and are urging drivers to slow down through the facility.

A story and photos about the country club’s detour appears in Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat. For the safety of all involved check it out.
