Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The board will consider utility permits for Southern Iowa Electric and will consider hiring an engineer for the secondary roads department. The Board will consider a communications lease for the statewide inter-operable communication system, meet with Jane Harris in regard to mental health issues, meet with Lois Heckethorn in regard to family farm tax credits and will conduct a closed session at 12:45 p.m. to discuss matters presently in litigation.

Middle school play ends Friday

The Davis County Middle School production of The Princess Who Had No Name will conclude Friday night at the Iowa Theatre. The performance begins at 7 p.m. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased at the middle school cafeteria between 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.

Council seeking to proceed with streetscape without county support

The Bloomfield City Council voted Thursday night to involve legal counsel in the streetscape debate that has been going on with the Davis County Board of Supervisors. Following a closed session to discuss legal action, the council voted to have its attorney contact the board of supervisors to seek the countys position on the streetscape issue and also to seek permission to proceed with streetscape without the countys involvement. The council also held a closed session to discuss purchase of property. In other news, the council approved an engineering agreement to begin work on the sewer treatment plant. The council also voted to increase all wages for pool employees by 75-cents per hour.

School board aproves construction manager

The Davis County School board agreed Monday night to hire Carl A. Nelson Company of Burlington as a construction manager. The construction management firm will be used on work being done to the middle school and high school buildings. The board also received a $16,500 check from the Davis County School Support Foundation. the money will be used to improve the sound system at the high school gymnasium.

Schrock convicted

John A. Schrock of rural Davis County will be sentenced in
Davis County District Court next week. Schrock was found guilty of one count of third-degree sexual abuse after having sex with a 16-year-old girl. Schrock was found guilty during a bench trial held earlier this month. His conviction was based on written testimony in the case, which indicates the abuse took place on Jan. 2, 2010 when the girl was babysitting in his home. His wife was in the hospital having a baby at the time the abuse took place. Business incubator to open in April

Indian Hills Community College with assistance from Bloomfield Main Street will be opening a business incubator on the south side of the Bloomfield Square in April. The incubator will house up to 5 small businesses in the old U.S. Cellular building owned by Garry Klicker. Track teams begin Season Tuesday

The Mustang spring sports teams get going next week. The girls track team leads things off with meet at Chariton on Tuesday, March 28. The meet begins at 4 p.m. The boys team travels to Pella Christian for a meet at 4:30 p.m.
