Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The board will meet with Custodian Randy Norman at 8:50 a.m. The board will consider a resolution to revise the 2017 county five-year program and will consider a resolution for a road vacation on Harvest Ave and 289th. Trail. At 9:30 a.m., the board will consider proposals for the new jail. They will meet with Jane Harris at 10 a.m. to discuss a mental health update and will also consider a resolution waiving the waiting period for the Miller Hog facility construction permit.

Look to the Stars event is Saturday

The Look to the Stars Cancer Foundation will host its annual soup supper and Auction Saturday at the Bloomfield Christian Church. Supper begins at 5 p.m. followed by the auction at 6:30 p.m.

Students observing Red Ribbon Week

Davis County High School students in the Students Opposed to Drugs and Alcohol (SODA) program have been working hard this week to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Students tied red ribbons around threes and light poles in the Davis County Courtyard and have adorned school property with the ribbons as well. The group is also meeting with elementary students and conducting other activities throughout the week.

Daycare woes in Davis County is the top story this week

Daycare woes plague working parents who live in Davis County. Wednesday's Bloomfield Democrat explores the problem working parents have of finding adequate daycare for their children. Absentee voting numbers increasing

Davis County Auditor Linda Humphrey announced this week that absentee voting activity is high as we reach the end of the 2016 election season. Humphrey reported that 869 Davis County voters have requested absentee ballots and of those 609 have already been returned. The 2016 General Election will take place Nov. 8.

New PTO hosts Haunted Halls Fun Night

The recently formed DC Middle School PTO is hosting the Haunted Halls of DCMS Family Fun Night Thursday, Oct. 27, 5-7 p.m. at the Middle School. There will be many activities for families in addition to a meal.

Dr. Sanchez to join staff

The Davis County Hospital announced this week that Dr. Christian Sanchez, a primary care physician, has agreed to join the Davis County Hospital Medical Associates. Sanchez will join the clinic in the fall of 2017. A story about Sanchez appears in Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat.

IHCC referendum meeting set for Friday morning

Indian Hills Community College President Marlene Sprouse will host a bond referendum informational meeting Friday morning in Bloomfield. The meeting will be held at the IHCC Davis Center at 9 a.m. The facility is located across the parking lot to the west of the Davis County High School. Sprouse will give a presentation on a $36 million bond referendum, explain the reason for the referendum and how the project will affect IHCC students. Voters in Davis County and nine other counties will be asked to vote on the referendum on Dec. 6. For more information about the meeting see Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat.

Cindy Lou Strawhacker, 63, of Bloomfield died Oct. 26, 2016 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Wagler Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation and no service is planned.

The Lady Mustang volleyball team returns to action Monday as tehy play in the Class 3A Region 8 Championship match. Davis County will face Mount Vernon Monday night at 7 p.m. The match will be played in Washington. The winner of this match will earn a berth in the 2016 Iowa State Volleyball Tournament.
