Benefit to be held

Randy Hauder, organizer for the benefit meal to help Cam and Jen Kenagy with adoption expenses for their baby girl, announced Monday that reservations are not necessary for the Sept. 30 benefit meal. Instead a free-will offering will be accepted. The benefit supper will be served at the Davis County Fairgrounds from 5-8 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Festival of Bands Saturday night

The 42nd Annual Festival of Bands will begin in Mustang Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Nine marching bands will compete. The DC Middle School Band, DC Alumni Band, DC Mini Colorguard, DCHS Band, and William Penn University Band will perform in exhibition.

The Share the Harvest walk to benefit third world countries will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the courtyard gazebo.  The Davis County Ministerial Association sponsors the event and welcomes all who want to participate

Supervisors Monday agenda

The Davis County Board of Supervisors Monday agenda includes a meeting with custodian Randy Norman at 8:50 a.m.; a meeting with secondary roads at 9 a.m.; and a discussion of employee health screenings and a discussion and possible action on HIPPA compliance.

Lake Wapello campground to open Friday

The Lake Wapello Campground will officially open back up on Friday, Sept. 30. The campground has been closed for the past year so that campsites could be renovated and additional services added to the campground. Other top stories in this weeks Bloomfield Democrat include the Fall Motor Show and Festival will be held Saturday in Bloomfield. Carol Reames is working to improve tourism in Bloomfield. Dave Davis won the first annual Bloomfield Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off. The Iowa Board of Medicine lifted restrictions placed on Dr. Dorothy Cline-Campbells medical license. Parking on square restricted during Motor Show

There will be no parking on the west side of the square and one block south on Madison St. from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday due to the Oct. 1 Motor Show. That space will be needed to show off the many entries that will be arriving in Bloomfield for the event. The south side of the square will also be blocked off to accommodate tractor and motorcycle shows. The event is being sponsored by Bloomfield Main Street.

Reames works to recruit tourists

Carol Reames is employed by the Davis County Tourism Development and Promotion Committee to strengthen the tourism industry in Davis County. She is collaborating with area tourism organizations to attract and entertain tourists in the area. More volunteers are needed to work with the committee and Reames to increase the economic impact of tourism in Davis County.

Dean Mincks

Dean Mincks, 83, of 407 Lake Dr., died Sept. 30 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Shaul Cemetery with the Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating. Visitation is open after 11 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Memorials may be made to Davis St. Christian Church or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 Ottumwa, IA 52501.

Cross country teams finish second

The Davis County boys' and girls' cross country teams both finished second Tuesday in the Indian Invitational in Osceola. Davis County returns to action Thursday with a meet at Chariton. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. in Red Haw Park near Chariton.

Lady Mustangs beat Knoxville

The Lady Mustang volleyball team improved to 3-1 in the South Central Conference Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Knoxville. Davis County won by set scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-22. The victory moved Davis County into a tie for second place in the conference standings with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Both teams are now 3-1 in conference play with each team losing to Centerville. Centerville is currently 5-0 in conference play.
