Council to hold special meeting Tuesday

The Bloomfield City Council will host a special meeting Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The council will consider a resolution calling for the Iowa DOT to convert Washington Street into a three-lane road and include a turning lane. The council will also consider a change order to the streetscape project to accommodate the change in road configuration. the council will host public hearing to discuss a budget amendment. The council will also hold a closed session to discuss matters of pending litigation with legal counsel. In other action, the council will consider hiring another employee in the clerks office. The council will also go into closed session to discuss personnel matters.

Council votes for 3 lanes

The question of whether to convert Highway 63 along the east side of the square to three lanes from four lanes was settled by the City Council last night. Councilman Jack Woolard moved to approve the 3-lane plan with diagonal parking on the west side and parallel parking on the east side of Washington Street. Councilmen Earl Howard and Jeff Anderson also voted affirmatively. John Hilbert cast the only no vote. Councilman Jason Skaggs was absent from the meeting. The decision now enables architects to finalize Bloomfield’s streetscape plans. Construction is expected to begin in late summer.

DCHS graduation Sunday

Lt. Col. Gavin Tade returns to his alma mater to deliver the commencement address Sunday at 2 p.m. at Davis County High School. Over 90 students will receive diplomas in the ceremony.

Supervisors agenda for Monday

The Davis Supervisors agenda for Monday includes meeting with secondary roads at 9 a.m. to determine annual wages for non-union employees, discussion and possible action on the county commitment to support the streetscape project, meeting with Lyn Davidson regarding use of courtyard on June 26, meeting with Teresa Roberts of SE Iowa Case Management regarding 28E agreement contract renewal, re-appointing Bill Bride, Dean Bailey, and Marlynne Urban to Veterans Affairs Commission, meeting with Kirby Moss regarding insurance renewal.

CAT grant awarded to Library, trails project

The Bloomfield Library and the Davis County Trails Committee received a CAT Grant last week from the Vision Iowa Board. The grant totaled $998,628 for the library renovation and the the trails project. A total of $815,000 of those funds will be used for the library and $83,628 will be used for the 640 linear feet of the trail.

Sprint medley team finishes 13th

The Lady Mustang sprint medley relay team finished 13th overall in the Iowa State Track Meet on Saturday. Jaylynn Sharp, MChelle Allen, Augusta Hamaker and Allyssa Yahnke ran the race in 1:53.90

The Mustang baseball team opened its 2016 season Monday night with an 8-0 loss to Pekin. Davis County will be back in action Tuesday night with a game at Wayne. Action begins at 6 p.m. with a junior varsity and varsity game being played.

The Lady Mustang softball team suffered a 13-3 loss to Pekin in the season opening game Monday night. Davis County returns to action Tuesday with a game at Wayne of Corydon. Action begins at 6 p.m. with a junior varsity game. The varsity game will follow.
