Jail feasibility committee to meet with Supervisors
A committee of local citizens has been meeting this fall to discuss the feasibility of remodeling or constructing a new Davis County Jail facility. State jail inspectors have told the Davis County Sheriff’s Office the facility is in need of updating or replacement in order to continue to meet state jail inspection requirements.
During a meeting Wednesday night, the committee determined that upgrading the current facility was not financially feasible to meet the needs based on jail requirements. The committee will meet with the Davis County Board of Supervisors on Monday to discuss a recommendation and the possibility of constructing a new jail facility.
With the help of Bloomfield Main Street, Butch and Lois Priester of Bloomfield recently received a $75,000 challenge grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The grant will be used in the remodeling and rehabilitation of buildings the Priesters own on the west side of the Bloomfield square.
The Priesters are awaiting final approval of the drawings before work can get started on their project. The grants require matching funds from the Priesters toward their project completion.
The Bloomfield Police Department is looking for the public’s help in solving a hit and run accident, which took place last week.
Police say a delivery truck struck the office building housing the Davis County Veteran’s Affairs Department. The building received damage as portions of the brick were knocked off. A handicapped railing was also damaged.
Police have a piece of the trailer from the delivery truck that broke off and was left at the scene. They have no other major leads to help solve the accident.
Anyone who might have seen the accident is urged to contact the police department at 664-2700. Police say the accident happened some time between Wednesday night, Oct. 22 and Friday morning, Oct. 24
