Maeder accepts battalion commander position

Davis County Superintendent Dan Maeder was recently promoted to Battalion Commander of the 234th Brigade Special Troops Battalion in Cedar Rapids. Maeder accepted the position, which places him in command of 500 soldiers. Maeder will hold the position while also performing his duties as Superintendent of Schools at Davis County. Main Street planning community reunion celebration

Bloomfield Main Street is planning a Davis County reunion celebration for June 27. Main Street is seeking community support to plan and host the event. Standing Hampton will perform a concert on the square and other activities are being planned. Any organization or individuals who would like to sponsor activities should call Main Street at 664-2309.

'Dirty Laundry' to open Thursday night

Dirty Laundry will be presented by Davis County Middle School students Thursday and Friday nights. The Musical comedy will be at the Iowa Theatre and begin at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets for the show will be available at the door during each night of the performance.

Council moves forward with water project

The Bloomfield City Council approved resolutions Thursday night to start replacing water lines on the east side of town. The council is beginning a Community Development Block Grant program to replace water lines near the high school and near Morningside Drive. The council agreed to consider adding handicapped parking spaces near the senior citizens center. They also discussed revising job descriptions.

Dates announced for 2015 Reunion

The Davis County Old Soldiers and Settlers Reunion committee announced this week that dates have been changed for the 2015 reunion. It will be held July 30 through Aug. 1. Reunion committee members also announced that efforts are being made to bring a carnival back to the reunion. Check out this weeks Bloomfield Democrat for more about the reunion committees plans.

Mustang Pride Day jobs being sought

The Davis County High School is seeking odd jobs for students to perform during Mustang Pride Day on April 23. Anyone needing help with painting, yard work, cleaning and other odd jobs is asked to contact the high school at 664-2200 ext. 1316 by April 10 to get on the schedule.

Firefighters battle grass fire

The Bloomfield, Pulaski and Drakesville Fire Departments battled a grass fire near the Blake McElderry residence southwest of Bloomfield Friday afternoon. The fire started as a controlled burn that got out of hand. Several acres of grass and timber were burned as a result of the blaze.

Plots available at community garden

Free plots are available at a community garden located at the McGowen Recreation and Wildlife Center. The garden includes a high fence, access to water and is tilled twice a year. Anyone interested in the community garden is asked to contact Josh Batterson at 664-2572 for more information.

Sheriff talks with students about drinking, driving recklessly

Sheriff Dave Davis spent time with high school students talking about hill jumping with vehicles and drinking parties in honor of deceased classmates. The sheriff has received public concerns about both activities. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the problem. Other top stories include Dan Maeder being named battalion commander of his National Guard unit, and the Davis County Fair Board turning down a school proposal to swap land.

Troy Academy meeting is Wednesday evening

The Historic Preservation Commission will host a meeting Wednesday night to discuss the deteriorating Troy Academy building. The meeting will be held in the Davis County Courthouse. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the courtroom. Anyone interested in the building is asked to bring photos, articles and information to share.

Sara Lawson recently earned a I rating at state speech contest. She will participate in the All-State Speech program on March 30. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat details the results of all speech participants at the state competition.

The Davis County Fair Board is partnering with Eldon Raceway to make some changes to the summer race schedule. Race dates in Bloomfield will be May 2, June 6, Fair races during the Davis County Fair on July 14-19, Aug. 8 and a demolition derby on Sept. 26.
