Contracts approved by boardThe Davis County School Board approved contracts for its classified staff Monday night even though a contract agreement has not been reached. Superintendent Dan Maeder told the board he wanted to make sure those contracts were approved so jobs for those staff members would be secure. The district is still in contract negotiations with the staff. Maeder later reported that a verbal tentative agreement had been reached with the teacher’s union for a 3.75 percent total package increase on their master contract. School officials have to wrap up contract negotiations despite still not knowing for sure what the state legislature is going to provide next year for state aid payments. State lawmakers still have not settled allowable growth figures. Posted on 21 May 2013 by Bdemo
Hospital board discusses postponing renovationWithout any official decision being made, the Davis County Hospital and its board of trustees put the brakes on a proposed renovation plan for the south and west wings of the hospital. CEO Deb Herzberg presented the board with a recommendation to wait for a year and revisit the proposed renovation plan again. Herzberg’s recommendation came after she had reviewed financial figures and the 2014 fiscal year budget, which shows an estimated net profit of $488,688 for the year. Herzberg commended the board as she said, “I think you guys are very forward thinking about this (the renovation project), but I’m not sure with the changes in healthcare that we should move forward with this now.” Dan Thompson agreed, saying, “I love the idea of the project. I would love to do this now, but I don’t think it’s feasible yet.” Posted on 21 May 2013 by Bdemo
