Public urged to contact legislators about school funding

Davis County Superintendent Dan Maeder said earlier this week that the Iowa Legislature needs to take measures to adequately fund Iowa’s Schools.

Maeder is urging taxpayers to contact their state legislators and urge them to do something about allowable growth funding so that local taxes won’t have to go up.

Maeder is also concerned because Davis County Schools spends approximately $300,000 more than other districts on transportation. Because of that, the district has less money to spend on educating its students compared to other districts.

Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the issue and how the local school district is affected.

Representative Curt Hanson may be reached at Curt.Hanson@legis.iowa.gov and  Senator Mark Chelgren may be reached at Mark.Chelgren@legis.iowa.gov.
