Local 4-H program is growing

The Davis County Extension Service announced this week that the 4-H program in Davis County has experienced a growth in the past year. With 190 local youth involved in 4-H, the program is seeing its highest enrollment since 2007. Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the 4-H program.

Mutchler Commission to meet next Monday

The Mutchler Community Center Commission will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct.12. The meeting notice was inadvertently omitted from Wednesday’s paper. The agenda calls for the approval of past meeting minutes, a treasurers report, bills, the directors report and more.

Knoxville wins band show

Knoxville won the Davis County Festival of Bands Saturday night in Bloomfield. They scored 75.9 points and beat out second place Washington who scored 75.3 points. Davis County performed in exhibition scoring 69.1 points. overall.

Mustangs lose to Albia, face North Polk Friday

The Mustang football team fell to 1-5 Friday night after suffering a 50-0 loss to Albia in Class 2A District 7 action. Davis County returns to action this week hosting North Polk.

Absentee ballots available for city election

The Davis County Auditor’s Office announced that absentee ballots are now available for the Nov. 3 city election. Council members in Bloomfield, Floris, Drakesville and Pulaski are up for re-election this year. Voters may cast ballots at the Davis County Auditor’s Office or may also request ballots be sent by mail.

Fire damages Bloomfield home Tuesday night

The Bloomfield Fire Department, along with other fire departments in the county, was dispatched to a house fire in the 500 block of South Madison Street in Bloomfield Tuesday night. The fire was reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the fire burning in the back of the home. Fire damage was contained the rear of the home but had also spread into an upstairs bedroom area. No one was home at the time of the blaze. Damage estimates were not available Wednesday morning but the house received extensive fire, smoke and water damage as a result of the blaze.

School board approves sharing agreement

The Davis County School board met Tuesday night The board agreed to a human resources sharing agreement with Cardinal Schools at a cost of $15,000 per year. the board approved an increase in substitute teacher pay to $120 per day. The board also held discussions concerning the building projects recently voted down in the bond issue election. Board members discussed several ideas on how the district can proceed with updating facilities but no decisions were made during the meeting.

City to begin energy audits in some local homes

The City of Bloomfield’s Energy efficiency department will begin energy audits offered to local residents through an AmeriCorps grant. Mustangs to host North Polk

The Mustang football team will host North Polk Friday night in Class 2A District 7 action. North Polk is 3-3 overall and is 2-1 in district play. Davis County is 1-5 overall and 1-4 in district play. Friday night’s action gets underway at 4:45 p.m. with the freshmen game. The varsity game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
