Compensation board recommendations declared null and void

The Davis County Compensation Board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday to discuss salary recommendations for county employees.

The board met earlier this month and came up with recommendations for the Davis County Board of Supervisors to consider. However, Tuesday afternoon, The Bloomfield Democrat learned that nothing that happened during that meeting will be allowed to stand. The board didn’t reach a majority of four votes on any of its motions in that meeting, which is what is needed. Davis County Attorney Rick Lynch confirmed this with the Bloomfield Democrat Tuesday evening.

The Bloomfield Democrat wrote a story about the Dec. 2 meeting and published the results of that meeting in Today’s (Wednesday’s) Bloomfield Democrat. An email from Davis County Auditor Linda Humphrey received at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday afternoon contained the agenda for Wednesday night’s meeting. It wasn’t until after that email, that The Bloomfield Democrat learned about the problems facing the Davis County Compensation Board.

The Davis County Compensation Board will resume discussions about salaries for county elected officials Wednesday evening and try to come up with a set of recommendations for the Davis County Board of Supervisors to consider before they set the 2016 fiscal year budget.

School board discusses Affordable Care Act

The Davis County School Board discussed the Affordable Care Act Monday night. Board members learned there are several employees who don’t meet requirements for receiving affordable insurance coverage. Board members also learned that if the district doesn’t do anything to change this, they could face fines of as much as $117,000 as early as July 1, 2015 if they are not in compliance with the legislation.

The board hired Sandy Warning as a part time teacher for concurrent enrollment computer classes. The board also learned that the district will begin accepting online payments for student lunch accounts in January.
