Old Soldiers and Settlers Friday schedule

Fun and games for kids and adults will take place at the Drakesville Reunion this afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. The pedal tractor pull is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The parade is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday followed by the presentation of the chair to the oldest soldier present. The Baker Family will present the stage show.

Saturday schedule for Old Soldiers and Settlers Reunion

The Drakesville Reunion will feature a Bill Bassett Memorial Motorcycle Fun Run at 8 a.m.  Saturday. The Baby Contest will begin at 1 p.m. and the Frog Jump at 3 p.m. The Canoe Carnival will be at 4 p.m. and the Ranch Rodeo is scheduled for the arena at 7 p.m. A chair will be presented to the oldest settler at 8 p.m. with registration at 7 p.m. The stage show with The Boys will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Council sets hearing for parks ordinances changes

The Bloomfield City Council set a public hearing for Aug. 4 to discuss possible changes to an ordinance governing boat access to Lake Fisher and other parks related issues. The council extended the CDBG water main replacement grant due to grant funds still remaining to be spent. The council approved several custom incentive applications for lighting changes in businesses. The Council approved $4,000 to be given to the Davis County Development Corporation with the possibility of additional funds being freed up in the near future.

Supervisors revisit ramp, courtyard drainage issues

The Davis County Supervisors opened up discussion on the proposed handicap ramp access to the courthouse as well as correcting drainage problems in the courtyard Monday morning. Both items were left in limbo when the supervisors pulled $30,000 in funding from the streetscape project May 23 when the City Council voted to convert Highway 63 to three lanes through Bloomfield. The projects will be readdressed in August with hopes of reaching a decision on how to proceed before the streetscape project goes up for bids in early September.

Yoders open 10th goat dairy in Davis County

Goat dairies are becoming increasingly popular in Davis County. Andy Yoder, who formerly owned T Corner Furniture, opened Davis County's 10th goat dairy last year and milks 108 goats. Knapp's steer to State Fair Charity Steer Show

Clarabell Knapp's Grand Champion steer will be shown in the Governor's Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 13. Bob Sinclair of Sinclair Tractor will show the steer, which was donated for the event after being purchased by the Davis County Beef Promoters. Proceeds from the State Fair auction will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Isabelle Boatman

Isabelle Boatman, 99, of Bloomfield, passed away July 29, 2016 at the Davis County Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. John D. Boatman officiating. Burial will be at the Troy Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Methodist Church and Davis County Dollars for Scholars.

Mary Louise Short of Milton died July 26 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Milton. Visitation with family will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. Memorials to Milton Alumni Association, Sunnyside Cemetery or Hospice of Central Iowa may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 709 Union Street, Milton, IA 52570. Pedrick Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
