Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The board will discuss the installation of a panic phone service to the South Central Behavioral Health office, consider support for a CAT grant, host a public hearing on a road vacation at 10 a.m. and they will meet with tourism representatives to discuss a community foundation grant. The board will meet with John Hansen at 11 a.m. to discuss the possibility of securing funds from Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative for the jail construction.

Marching band travels to Kahoka Saturday

The Davis County marching band travels to Kahoka, Mo. Saturday for the Clark County Festival of Bands. They will participate in a parade at 2 p.m. and a field show at 5 p.m.

Absentee ballots available for city election

The Davis County Auditor’s Office announced that absentee ballots are now available for the Nov. 3 city election. Council members in Bloomfield, Floris, Drakesville and Pulaski are up for re-election this year. Voters may cast ballots at the Davis County Auditor’s Office or may also request ballots be sent by mail.

Fire damages Bloomfield home Tuesday night

The Bloomfield Fire Department, along with other fire departments in the county, was dispatched to a house fire in the 500 block of South Madison Street in Bloomfield Tuesday night. The fire was reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the fire burning in the back of the home. Fire damage was contained the rear of the home but had also spread into an upstairs bedroom area. No one was home at the time of the blaze. Damage estimates were not available Wednesday morning but the house received extensive fire, smoke and water damage as a result of the blaze.

School board approves sharing agreement

The Davis County School board met Tuesday night The board agreed to a human resources sharing agreement with Cardinal Schools at a cost of $15,000 per year. the board approved an increase in substitute teacher pay to $120 per day. The board also held discussions concerning the building projects recently voted down in the bond issue election. Board members discussed several ideas on how the district can proceed with updating facilities but no decisions were made during the meeting.

City to begin energy audits in some local homes

The City of Bloomfield’s Energy efficiency department will begin energy audits offered to local residents through an AmeriCorps grant. City to fund On-Bill financing program

The Bloomfield City Council voted Wednesday night to spend $150,000 to fund an On-Bill financing program, which will help improve the energy efficiency of several homes in the community. The council looked at several of its projects and the spending the city has done. The council determined the money was available to finance the program and voted to do so. The council also approved a CAT grant application and voted to approve energy efficiency rebate applications with a cap of $30,000 to be spent this fiscal year.

Local 4-H program is growing

The Davis County Extension Service announced this week that the 4-H program in Davis County has experienced a growth in the past year. With 190 local youth involved in 4-H, the program is seeing its highest enrollment since 2007. Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the 4-H program.

Cynthia “Cindy” Renee Haifley, 52, of Floris, died Oct. 8, 2015 at the Ottumwa Hospice House. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wagler Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Baker officiating. Burial will be at the Floris Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Boys fourth, girls seventh at Hannibal

The Mustang boys cross country team finished fourth at Hannibal, Mo., Thursday afternoon. The girls team finished seventh. Zach Hougland led the boys team with a second place finish while Madeline Nelson was sixth for the girls.
