Courthouse clock being reinstalled this week

The courthouse clock has returned to Bloomfield this week and is being installed back into the courthouse bell tower. The clock has been gone for nearly 18 months.

Rory DeMessy of Minneapolis, Minn., has been working to conserve the clock and repair it to its original working condition (without electrification).

Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the clock and a special celebration, which was held Sunday to allow local residents to see it before it was installed.

Streetscape meetings set for Thursday

A public meeting has been set for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the proposed Streetscape project, which will make major changes to the look of the Bloomfield Square and surrounding blocks. Thursday’s meeting will be at the Iowa Theatre.

The meeting will include a discussion about Highway 63 one the east side of the square and whether or not the highway should be reduced to three lands and include a turn lane instead of having the four lanes of traffic. A discussion about the use of geothermal in the downtown area will also be held Thursday night.

Check out Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat for a full listing of the events that will take place Thursday surrounding the streetscape issue.
