Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The board will discuss road vacations for parts of Mink Blvd, and Rainbow Ave., at 9 a.m. They will discuss the use of the courtyard by Crisis Intervention at 10 a.m. and consider a liquor license for The Meadows. The board will meet with assessor Lois Heckethorn at 10:45 a.m. to discuss business property tax credits.

Bluegrass show is Saturday

The 13th annual Bluegrass Show will be held Saturday at the Iowa Theatre. The show starts at 7 p.m. Lori King and Junction 63, Highway Home Bluegrass and the Bluegrass Blondies are some of the bands that will be performing. Five Davis County youth will also perform. They are Mercedes Barker, Dayton Rysdam, Glenn Goodson, Hayden Watson and Lane Johnson.

Chili supper set for Saturday

A chili soup supper fundraiser will be held Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at the Bloomfield Senior Citizens Center. Dave Thordarson will be serving his prize-winning chili. Free-will donations will be accepted with funds designated for upkeep of the building.

Sheriff talks with students about drinking, driving recklessly

Sheriff Dave Davis spent time with high school students talking about hill jumping with vehicles and drinking parties in honor of deceased classmates. The sheriff has received public concerns about both activities. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the problem. Other top stories include Dan Maeder being named battalion commander of his National Guard unit, and the Davis County Fair Board turning down a school proposal to swap land.

Lawson earns all-state speech honor

Sara Lawson recently earned a I rating at state speech contest. She will participate in the All-State Speech program on March 30. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat details the results of all speech participants at the state competition.

Maeder accepts battalion commander position

Davis County Superintendent Dan Maeder was recently promoted to Battalion Commander of the 234th Brigade Special Troops Battalion in Cedar Rapids. Maeder accepted the position, which places him in command of 500 soldiers. Maeder will hold the position while also performing his duties as Superintendent of Schools at Davis County. Main Street planning community reunion celebration

Bloomfield Main Street is planning a Davis County reunion celebration for June 27. Main Street is seeking community support to plan and host the event. Standing Hampton will perform a concert on the square and other activities are being planned. Any organization or individuals who would like to sponsor activities should call Main Street at 664-2309.

'Dirty Laundry' to open Thursday night

Dirty Laundry will be presented by Davis County Middle School students Thursday and Friday nights. The Musical comedy will be at the Iowa Theatre and begin at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets for the show will be available at the door during each night of the performance.

Danny Roberts

Danny Eugene Roberts, 68, of rural Drakesville died March 27, 2015 in an auto accident after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 1 at the Wagler Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Matheney officiating. Burial will be at the Wesley Chapel North Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Davis County Little League. Davis County Babe Ruth and high school baseball programs and the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be directed to www.waglerfuneralhome.com.
