City council to meet Thursday night

The Bloomfield City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The council will consider the second reading of an ordinance calling for no parking on Franklin Street from the square to the east city limits.

The council will also consider purchasing a street-patcher to share with the county.

Homecoming activities continue Thursday and Friday

Homecoming activities continue Thursday night with the annual coronation ceremony, which begins at 8 p.m. in the high school gym.

The homecoming queen and king will be crowned. Homecoming attendants from the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes will also be named.

Friday’s activities include a pep assembly in the high school gymnasium at noon. The parade will be held at 1:30 p.m. and features a new route this year due to the road construction in Bloomfield.

The parade route will begin at the elementary school and head west on North Street. The route turns right on Madison Street where it goes through the hospital parking lot and then to the Bloomfield Care Center. After leaving the care center, the parade will turn west on Goode Street and then south on West Street. The parade route turns east on Locust Street, South on Madison Street and will go east across the north side of the square, before heading toward the high school on Jefferson Street. The parade will not go on the west or south sides of the square this year.

Grant applications available for DC Foundation grants

Grant applications are still available for the Davis Count Community Foundation grant program, which will distribute more than $90,000 later this year.

Applications are due Nov. 1 and can be downloaded at www.iowacommunityfoundations.org/davis-county-foundation.aspx.

Applicants must be a 501c3 organization, a government entity or connected with one of these two.

Homecoming begins Monday

Homecoming activities began Monday at the Davis County High School.

Students and staff have planned several activities this week in celebration of the event.

A powder-puff football game will be held Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at Mustang Stadium. The annual Mustang Games will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a bon fire at the baseball diamond. Coronation will be Thursday night followed by the homecoming game on Friday night.

Property tax deadline is Tuesday

Tuesday is the final day to pay first half property taxes without a penalty. Land and property owners can pay their taxes in person, online or by dropping payments off in the drop box right outside the north side of the courthouse building.

Payments received after Sept. 30 will be assessed a 1.5 percent penalty.

Johnson named as new hospital CEO

Kirby Johnson of Bemidji, Minn., has been selected as the new CEO of the Davis County Hospital. Johnson was announced last week by the Davis County Hospital board.

Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat features a story about Johnson who will begin his duties with the hospital in November.

Homecoming activities continue Wednesday night with the Mustang games scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Mustang Stadium. A bonfire will be held in the parking lot of the baseball diamond beginning at 8:15 p.m.

Coronation will be held Thursday night beginning at 8 p.m. and will be held in the high school gym.

Mustangs to host Albia Friday

The Mustang football team will face Albia Friday night in the annual homecoming football game. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. at Mustang Stadium.

Albia comes into the game with a 5-0 record and is in first place in the Class 2A District 7 race. Davis County is 1-4 this season and is coming off a 34-21 win over Clarke last week.
