Nicoletto conviction reversed

The Iowa Supreme Court Friday filed an opinion in the sexual abuse case against Patrick Ryan Nicoletto of Bloomfield.

Supreme Court justices reversed a conviction against Nicoletto, which was issued by a Davis County jury.

Justices stated Nicoletto was not subject to prosecution under the Iowa Statute used in Nicoletto’s conviction. That statute involved treating Nicoletto as a school employee, licensed professional or administrator. The court determined that coaching with just a coaching authorization was not enough to consider Nicoletto a school employee and reversed the conviction.

The decision released Friday morning stated that all Iowa Supreme Court Justices except Judge Edward Mansfield and Judge Thomas Waterman agreed that Nicoletto’s conviction should be reversed.
