Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The board will discuss an alcohol license for the Fort Bloomfield Rodeo at 10 a.m. They will consider a contract with Anderson, Larkin & Co., at 10:05 a.m. and will take action on the assignment of a tax sale certificate being assigned to the City of Pulaski. The board will also take action concerning the hiring of a new employee for the Davis County Treasurer’s office.

Walk for Life is Saturday

The Davis County Hospitals Walk For Life will be held Saturday morning in the Davis County Courtyard. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with the walk starting at 11 a.m. The walk will go from the courthouse to the Hospital and back. Musical entertainment will be provided in the courtyard Lunch will also be provided.

Voters to decide fate of jail next week

Voters will decide the fate of the Davis County Jail next week during a special bond referendum election. The Bloomfield Democrat features a story this week about the jail including details about the election and the polling places. Other top stories: The Davis County Trails project is beginning the work to build a bridge across a creek bed near the Mutchler Community Center. White Communications and MPA Computers were recently honored by Indian Hills Community College. The Troy Historical Society needs help and volunteers to continue their work. Rocky Lee, 19, of rural Bloomfield is facing charges following a January auto accident.

Mental health workshop to be held Thursday

A youth mental health first aid course will be held Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative building east if Bloomfield. The training session is being held to help build mental health literacy Registrations need to be done through ISU Extension and cane be done by calling 664-2730.

Blew facing additional animal cruelty charges in Missouri

Roger Blew formerly of Drakesville is in custody in the Davis County Jail serving a 10-day sentence stemming from a case of animal abuse that took place in early 2014. Blew is also facing felony charges of animal abuse in Schuyler County, Mo. Missouri authorities spent Wednesday confiscating approximately 200 animals off a property north of Glenwood, Mo., where Blew was living. Approximately a dozen dead animal carcasses were found on the property.

Troy group needs help, volunteers to maintain Academy

The Troy Historical Society is in need of volunteers and help to keep the Troy Academy building a viable part of Davis County History. Volunteers are needed to revive the group to the point it can begin seeking grant funds. Funds and volunteer help are needed to maintain the building. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about the group and maintenance needs.

Ruby Darlene Crow

Ruby Darlene Crow, 90, of Bloomfield passed away May, 1. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at the Wagler Funeral Home with Pastor Dick Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery in Winterset. Visitation will be an hour before the service on Sunday. A memorial has been established to the family. Online condolences may be left at

The Davis County boys and girls track teams travel to Cardinal Friday afternoon for the Bob Gerard Relays. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
The Mustang boys golf team travels to Keosauqua Saturday morning for the Van Buren Invitational. Action begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Riverview Country Club.
The Lady Mustang tennis team travels to the Burlington Invitational Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m. at the Shoquoauon Tennis Club.

Fairfield beats DC netters

The Mustang tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to Fairfield Thursday afternoon in dual meet action. Davis County won two singles matches and also scored a win in the number two doubles match.

Lady Mustangs shoot best team score

The Lady Mustang golf team shot a 214 Thursday afternoon but still lost to Centerville in a dual meet at the Bloomfield Country Club. Centerville shot a 195. The 214 team scores is one of the teams best scores of the season. Blair Bodkins led the effort with a 52.
