School board prioritized facility projects

The Davis County School Board took action Monday night to scale down and prioritize facility projects that need attention. The board agreed Monday night to put together another bond issue and put it up for election on Apriil 5. Board members prioritized several projects and agreed to cut costs. After prioritizing the projects, the board will now send its recommendations to Story Construction and Struxture Architects to gain up-to-date cost estimates. The board agreed to cut the project by nearly $4 million.

Council prioritizes budget items

The Bloomfield City Council prioritized several things Tuesday night that will be discussed during the council’s budget for the coming year. The top priority was retrofitting the city’s electric generating engines, which must be done by next summer. The City also approved the need to purchase new utility metering systems and software. The city agreed to put more funding toward the streetscape program and has committed to beginning the process of moving the city toward owning a solar array.

Thanksgiving thoughts from students is top story

Third and fourth grade students from the Davis County Elementary School spent a few minutes Friday discussing the Thanksgiving holiday. Students talked about what Thanksgiving means to them and other thoughts about what they are thankful for during this holiday. Other top stories include the Davis County Schools hosted a discussion with Indian Hills Community College and others to discuss workforce training. The Bloomfield City Council will use leftover Franklin Street funds to construct an extension to Anderson Street. In sports, the winter sports preview appears in this weeks edition. Stories about all seven of the South Central Conference winter sports teams are included.

Access to the online edition of the Bloomfield Democrat has been opened up to everyone due to problems with our website. Users may click on the photo icon of the newspapers front page located in the upper left corner of the webiste. That will start an automatic download of the newspaper pdf for patrons to read.

School board to host special meeting Monday night

The Davis County School Board will host a special meeting Monday night at 7 p.m. The board will discuss facility improvement goals and determine a process for making improvements. The board is expected to take action on those goals Monday night as well.

Library board to meet Tuesday

The Bloomfield Library Board will meet Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. The board will consider changes to the by-laws, committee assignments, and a strategic planning day. The board will also consider ramp repair, Doris Anderson’s Estate check and hear reports from the construction committee and library assistants.

Basketball teams begin season Tuesday night

The Mustang boys and girls basketball teams will begin their seasons Tuesday night. The girl host Chartion while the boys travel to Chariton for South Central Conference games. Action begins at 5 p.m. at both locations. Freshman games will be followed by junior varsity and varsity games.

Wuthrich, Kincart get victories

The Mustang wrestling team suffered a 66-12 loss to Ottumwa Monday night in the season opening meet. Wilston Wuthrich scored a pin at 145 pounds and Ben Kincart scored a pin at 285 pounds to account for Davis Countys only match wins.
