School board discusses funding issues

The Davis County School Board learned Monday night that the district may have to implement budget cuts including staff reduction, if the state legislature doesn’t come up with any allowable growth funding. Superintendent Dan Maeder prepared the board for the possibility, saying that state officials still have not come to an agreement. In other action, the board did approve several resignations and contracts. The board also heard a presentation on how the district investigates bullying claims.

Hospital to gain Rural Heal Clinic certification

Dr. Robert Floyd announced Monday night that the Davis County Hospital will soon become a certified Rural Health Clinic. The announcement was made at the monthly meeting of the Davis County Hospital Board. the designation will qualify the hospital for special Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and increase access to primary care services for patients served by Medicare and Medicaid.

City to become part-owner of new law center

The Bloomfield City Council approved a bid of just more than $700,000 from Shane Poe Construction Thursday night to perform water main replacement in the city of Bloomfield. Since the bid was lower than expected, the council may consider adding work to the project or may even re-bid the project altogether. The council voted Thursday night to become part owner in the newly proposed Davis County Law Center. The city and county will work out the details in an upcoming public safety meeting.

School board to meet Monday night

The Davis County School Boards building committee will meet at 6 p.m. to discuss a feasibility study from Story Construction. The board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday night. The board will consider contracts, resignations, and hear a presentation on bullying investigation procedures. The board will consider potential graduates, a district credit card for travel expenses, math expenditures, lunch prices, a Kohls contract, mower and truck bids and the purchase of an air conditioner for the ICN data room.

The Davis County Hospital Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The board will consider a trauma care facility certification support letter. The board will consider policy changes and approval credentials.

DCDC annual meeting is Tuesday

The Davis County Development Corporation will host its annual meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative. New officers will be elected and hospital CEO Kirby Johnson will be the featured speaker.

Lady Mustangs finish third at Albia

The Lady Mustang golf team finished third at Albia Monday night in a South Central Conference meet. Davis County shot a 235 team score to finish behind both Albia and Centerville. Bailey Spurgeon led the team effort shooting a 53. The Lady Mustangs return to action Tuesday night hosting Fairfield in a non-conference meet. Action begins at 4:15 p.m. at the Bloomfield Country Club.
