City to become part-owner of new law center

The Bloomfield City Council approved a bid of just more than $700,000 from Shane Poe Construction Thursday night to perform water main replacement in the city of Bloomfield. Since the bid was lower than expected, the council may consider adding work to the project or may even re-bid the project altogether. The council voted Thursday night to become part owner in the newly proposed Davis County Law Center. The city and county will work out the details in an upcoming public safety meeting.

School board to consider contracts, resignations

The Davis County School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday night. The board will consider contracts, resignations, approving potential graduates, math expenses for the 2015-2016 school year, lunch prices, food contracts and will consider an HVAC expense for the central office.

Prom is Saturday night

The Davis County High School will host its annual prom Saturday night. The prom begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Mutchler Community Center. After Prom activities will be held at the Davis County Middle School.

Supervisors meet Monday

The Davis County Supervisors agenda for the April 20 morning meeting includes signing a utility permit for CMTEL, approving an alcohol license for the DC Ag Society dba Bloomfield Speedway, meeting with Kirby Moss on an insurance review, discussing the sheriffs quarterly report and a resolution on outstanding warrants.

Historical society opens, needs volunteers

The Davis County Historical Society announced this week that it has opened its doors for its summer hours. The complex will be open from 9 a.m. to noon and will expand those hours to include 1-4 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The committee overseeing the complex has plans for several projects this summer including improvements to the Savannah Christian Church both inside and out. The complex is also announcing a need for both monetary donations and is also in need of volunteers. Anyone interested in getting involved is urged to attend the committee meetings on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. the meetings are held in the Livery Barn on the museum complex.

DCDC meeting information omitted from newspaper

The Davis County Development Corporation will host is annual meeting on April 21 at 6 p.m. in the SIEC Touchstone Energy Center. New officers will be elected for the coming year and Hospital CEO Kirby Johnson will be the featured speaker. the information was omitted from Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat.

Child abuse prevention is top story

Cheryll Jones and Stephanie Knox of the Davis County Child Abuse Prevention are working hard to raise awareness and educate the public on the effects of child abuse. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about their efforts and details how child abuse affects families. Other top stories include the Davis County School District struggling with its budget because of an indecisive state legislature. Work is being done to get Rathbun Water connected to the City of Bloomfield. In sports, read about the successes of the Davis County track teams last week in the Dennis Anderson Relays.
