Local officials take part in eLab project

Officials from the City of Bloomfield and Bloomfield Main Street recently took part in the Rocky Mountain Institutes eLab Accelerator. The program is an energy forum. The group is working on goals that will define energy independence in Bloomfield, determine how to communicate the concept and pushing the community toward energy independence. Wednesdays Bloomfield Democrat features a story about what the group learned during the eLab program.

Fire departments battle timber fire

Fire departments from Bloomfield, Floris, Drakesville and Eldon responded to a grass and timber fire at 24537 Floris Road Tuesday. The fire burned several acres before firefighters could get the blaze under control.

Troy Academy seeking board members

The Troy Academy needs to revive the group that oversees the building. The Academy is looking for volunteers to oversee the building and its upkeep. Funds are needed to perform work and without a viable group, the academy will not be eligible to seek grants. A story in Wednesday’s Bloomfield Democrat highlights a meeting last week held in hopes to rekindle the group.

Fire departments respond to structure fire Thursday

Fire departments from Bloomfield, Floris, Drakesville and Pulaski were all dispatched to a structure fire Thursday night at the Farmers Country Market located at 18780 200th Street west of Bloomfield. The fire was reported at 8:57 p.m. Thursday night. No further details have been released at this point.

Supervisors to meet Monday

The Davis County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The board will discuss road vacations for parts of Mink Blvd, and Rainbow Ave., at 9 a.m. They will discuss the use of the courtyard by Crisis Intervention at 10 a.m. and consider a liquor license for The Meadows. The board will meet with assessor Lois Heckethorn at 10:45 a.m. to discuss business property tax credits.

Partners In Education group revived

Partners In Education, a parent driven organization, has been revived. The focus of the group is to help the Davis County Elementary School in many ways. The group has benefited the school with fundraisers, which supported field trips, academic programs, assemblies and many other things. Any parents of students in the elementary school are encouraged to get involved. The next meeting will be April 23 at 6 p.m. in the elementary school.

Police waiting to charge Walker in car theft case

The Bloomfield Police Department will await extradition of Randall Walker Jr., of Ottumwa before filing charges against him following an incident last week. Walker is accused of rummaging through local vehicles and a local business trailer before stealing a care on March 25. The car was later found in a ditch near Cantril. The incident was part of a four-county crime spree that ended in Scotland County, Mo. Walker is facing multiple charges in Missouri along with multiple car theft charges in Iowa.

Hall arrested on sex abuse charge

Bloomfield Police Chief Shawn Armstrong announced Monday that police have arrested James Hall, 54, of 211 East Franklin St., Bloomfield. Hall was charged with third degree sexual abuse following an incident Saturday afternoon, March 28. Hall is accused of sexually assaulting a woman without her consent. he was placed in the Davis County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Bernie French Martin

Bernie French Martin, 87, of Bloomfield died March 27 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2 at the Mark Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Axtell officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. unit the time of the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established to the Mark Baptist Church Building Fund.

Tennis team loses opener

The Lady Mustang tennis team suffered a 5-4 loss to Centerville Tuesday night in the team’s opening match of the season. Davis County won three of the six singles matches and scored only one doubles win in the meet.
