Blew sentenced in animal hoarding case

Roger Blew of Drakesville will spend 10 days in the Davis County Jail as punishment for what many have called the largest animal hoarding case in the state of Iowa.

Blew was originally charged with 38 counts of animal neglect, failure to dispose of dead carcasses, game breeders’ violations and more following a search warrant of his Drakesville residence back in February.

A plea deal led to his sentencing last Friday. Prosecutors recommended a year in jail with all but 10 days of that sentence suspended. Blew will be allowed to serve out his 10 days in the Davis County Jail. It will be broken up into five different two-day increments. Blew must report to the Davis County Jail for the first time within the next 30 days. He also received a period of probation as part of his sentencing. He was also fined and ordered to pay restitution of more than $2,250 in the case.
