Law center referendum passes

With 72.47 percent of the vote, the Davis County Law Enforcement Center Referendum passed Tuesday night. A total of 661 of the 912 votes cast, voted in favor of spending $5.8 million to construct a new facility. There were 251 who voted against it. The Davis County Sheriff’s Office will now finalize a land purchase. The bidding process will begin soon. Construction should begin later this year or in early 2016. The facility should be open for use before the end of 2016.

Blew facing charges again is top story

Roger Blew is facing two counts of animal abuse in Missouri following a rescue mission by Missouri authorities at Blew’s property in Glenwood, Mo. Authorities rescued approximately 200 animals from the property, in which Blew is accused of hoarding them. Other top stories include Steve O’Grady repels down a 25 story building. The Bloomfield-Davis County Public Safety Commission discussed jail ownership. Bloomfield Main Street was recently recognized for outstanding achievements.

Voters to decide fate of jail next week

Voters will decide the fate of the Davis County Jail next week during a special bond referendum election. The Bloomfield Democrat features a story this week about the jail including details about the election and the polling places. Other top stories: The Davis County Trails project is beginning the work to build a bridge across a creek bed near the Mutchler Community Center. White Communications and MPA Computers were recently honored by Indian Hills Community College. The Troy Historical Society needs help and volunteers to continue their work. Rocky Lee, 19, of rural Bloomfield is facing charges following a January auto accident.

Voters to decide fate of DC Jail Tuesday

Tuesday is election day in Davis County. Voters will go to the polls to choose between a new Davis County Law Center or housing prisoners out of county. A no vote in the election means the jail could possibly be shut down by Iowa State Jail Inspectors.
Polls open at noon Tuesday. All Bloomfield voters and those living in the Cleveland Township island will vote at the fire station. All other voters will vote at their normal polling places. The polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

Pre-contest concert will be Tuesday

The Davis County High School Band and Choir will host its annual pre-contest concert Tuesday night at the Davis County High School. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and features music the ensembles will perform at large group contest on Friday.

Public safety comissionto work on 28E agreement

The Bloomfield-Davis County Public Safety Commission agreed Monday night to work toward joint ownership of the newly proposed law center. The group agreed to make changes to the 28E agreement, which provides the oversight of the law center.

Ruby Laviece Weilbrenner

Ruby Laviece Weilbrenner, 94, of Bloomfield passed away May 3 at the Bloomfield Care Center. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday May 8 at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Schuyler County, Mo., with Pastor Kramer Smith officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Salvation Army. Lady Mustangs beat Moravia

The Lady Mustang golf team beat Moravia Tuesday in a dual meet. Davis County shot  216 while Moravia shot a 283. The girls return to Moravia Thursday for the Mohawk Invitational Tournament. Action begins at 1 p.m.
