Wrestlers to compete in sectional tournament

The Mustang wrestling team will begin postseason action Saturday in the Class 2A Sectional Tournament. The tournament will be held in Centerville and will begin at noon.

First and second place winners in Saturday’s Tournament will advanced to the district tournament on Feb. 11.

Basketball teams to face Clarke, Moravia

The Mustang boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will host Clarke Friday night. The junior varsity boys’ game will be held at 5 p.m. at the high school. The girls’ varsity game and the boys’ varsity games will follow.

At 6:15 p.m. the freshman boys’ game with Clarke will be played at the Davis County Middle School Gymnasium.

The varsity basketball teams will return to action Saturday with games at Moravia. Action begins at 4 p.m. with the girls’ game followed by the boys’ game at 6 p.m.

Lady Mustangs lose to Albia

The Lady Mustang basketball team suffered a 45-35 loss to Albia Tuesday night.

Davis County trailed 12-11 at the half, but struggled with its shooting in the second half as Albia pulled away. Shelby Graves led the scoring with seven points.

Mustangs beat Albia

The Mustang basketball team improved to 10-6 Tuesday night after scoring a 68-62 win over Albia in South Central Conference action.

Park Mikels led the Mustangs with 17 points while Josie Garmon and Calvin Mathews each had 16 points.

Mustangs beat Clark County, face Albia Tuesday

The Mustang boys’ basketball team beat Clark County, Mo., 64-61 Monday night.

The Davis County boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will host Albia in a South Central Conference showdown Tuesday night. Action begins at 5 p.m. and will feature both boys’ and girls’ games being played in Bloomfield.

The schedule calls for the junior varsity boys’ team to play at 5 p.m. at the middle school. The freshman boys’ and girls’ games will follow. At the high school, the junior varsity girls team will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity girls’ and varsity boys’ games.

Senior parents’ night activities will also be taking place.

2012 football schedules should be out soon

Mustang football coach Ed Koser and the Davis County High School should find out soon who they will play in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association re-aligned football districts this winter. Davis County will face teams from Albia, PCM, Clarke, Bondurant-Farrar, Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, and I-35/Truro. Davis County will also play Central Lee.

The athletic association is currently determining the non-district opponents that will be on Davis County’s schedule. Schedules will be released some time in February.

Wrestling team goes 2-2 in tournament

The Mustang wrestling team finished 2-2 in the Roland Story Tournament Saturday in Story City. Davis County beat Roland Story 48-24. Davis County also scored a 40-39 win over Ankeny’s junior varsity team. The Mustangs suffered a 43-30 loss to Grinnell and a 42-30 loss to Estherville.

Davis County finished the season with an 18-6 record and will spend the rest of the week preparing for the Class 2A Sectional Tournament, which will be held Feb. 4.

DC girls beat Chariton

The Lady Mustang basketball team picked up a much-needed South Central Conference win last Friday night. Davis County beat Chariton 59-50.

Shelby Graves led the effort with 24 point while Lauren Dewes had 10 and Aisha Boone had nine.

Davis County returns to action Tuesday night hosting Albia. Action begins at 5 p.m.

Mustangs beat Chariton

The Mustang boys beat Chariton 64-61 last Friday night in South Central Conference action. Park Mikels led the scoring with 19 points. Calvin Mathews added 12.

Davis County returns to action Monday night with a non-conference game at Clark County, Mo. Action begins at 6 p.m. in Kahoka, Mo. with the junior varsity game. The varsity game will follow.
