Regional talent attraction initiative aims to help local businesses

For the past year and a half the Davis County Development Corporation has joined forces with Indian Hills Community College and economic development professionals in Appanoose, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Monroe, Van Buren, Wapello and Wayne counties to develop a regional business and talent attraction initiative branded Iowa South. The primary goal of Iowa South is grow our communities and to help local businesses fill their workforce pipelines.

John D Schroeder, Executive Director,  Davis County Development Corporation said, “My colleagues and I consistently hear from individuals and businesses that we need more growth in our communities. In addition, many local businesses  are having a hard time filling high quality jobs within their organizations.  Locally, we know that Iowa South is a great place to live, invest, and do business with abundant  opportunities, but not enough people outside of our region know that. The goal of this initiative is to share the Iowa South story both near and far. We want to encourage others to check out this area and consider moving here to start businesses, grow their careers, and raise their families.”

Iowa South is launching this month through three coordinated initiatives. First, Iowa South has partnered with the larger state talent attraction initiative being run by Iowa Economic Development Authority. This initiative will feature Iowa profiles on the popular website, as well as within a print piece that will be distributed across the nation. Iowa South will be featured prominently on both the website and within the printed Iowa guide. You can view the complete guide at

Secondly, Iowa South has launched a website, , for individuals interested in learning more about our region as a whole. It will feature regional attractions, stories about the people and businesses that call Iowa South home, and select job opportunities.

Finally, Iowa South is on Facebook,, and the group is collecting stories to share. Please use the hashtag, #IowaSouth to share your great Iowa South experience. Iowa South wants to hear your stories, promote regional events, and highlight opportunities within the region.

While Iowa South is focused on attracting outside talent to help grow the regional economy, the steering team is also dedicated to assisting local talent. If you need assistance with career/skill training, or finding out about the job opportunities available locally, please contact or
