Kenny Cronin of the Grace Pointe Nazarene Church is planning an ecumenical Bible School experience for grades kindergarten through six in the Success Bank parking lot.
“We plan for this to be a Community Vacation Bible School that brings the churches in the community together,” Cronin said.
Grace Pointe Nazarene and Pastor RJ Montis are assisting with the event that is scheduled to take place from July 27-31. Should there be rain, the outdoor event will be cancelled for that day, but the materials will be placed on line for use by participants.
Cronin said the theme is “Camp Hope” and the curriculum and materials are coming from the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. The Church of Hope has given Cronin some of the content and is allowing him to adapt it as necessary.
“My brother J.D. and I have gone to that Bible School, and for a couple of years I have wanted to do this here,” Cronin said. “While this would not be safe at the Lutheran Church of Hope with their large numbers, I think we’re positioned to successfully do it here. We have an outdoor location (the Success Bank parking lot) that will allow us to divide the kids into stations of 5-10 each with space between groups, even though we can’t socially distance individuals from one another.”
Cronin said there are materials for lower elementary children and for upper elementary children.
Children may sign up for Camp Hope by going to the Davis County VBS Facebook page (facebook.com/dcvbs). Cronin may also be contacted by calling 616-610-6146.
