Six Davis County High School Students flexed their academic muscles and won the South Central Conference Academic Bowl. The competition was held in Chariton on March 24.
Team members Blakelyn Stewart, Roman Combs, Macy Hill, David Nash, Wyatt McClure and Hoyt Dzwoniarski represented Davis County in the competition that featured all seven South Central Conference Schools.
The competition was set up in a round-robin format allowing each of the seven conference schools to compete against one another individually. Davis County finished the day with an undefeated 6-0 record in those matches and was the only school to get through the day without a loss. Team coach Ricci Herr said her team scored between 180 and 305 points in each of the six matches to secure the victories.
“As different as this year was for the academic bowl, it was still very enjoyable. There were many different things that took place compared to what we were used to seeing,” said team member Roman Combs. “We could only bring one team and everybody participated. There were no alternates and it was played round-robin style as opposed to brackets. This was our first time bringing home first place and I couldn’t be happier with the team. Many of them did not get to participate last year due to the pandemic, so this was their first time competing.”
