Students prepare to ‘Protect the Pennant’
Davis County High School’s Homecoming Week is underway as evidenced by the trees in the courtyard and along Franklin Street that have been decorated according to long-time community tradition.
The TP decorations appeared Sunday night, and by Monday, DCHS 9th graders were involved in homecoming week football and volleyball games against Cardinal and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont respectively.
Tuesday, DCHS students celebrated by dressing as Superheroes in keeping with the theme for the week — Protect the Pennant. (The winner of the Centerville-Davis County football game traditionally displays a pennant in their building for one year.)
DC Middle School football teams play Central Decatur and the DCHS volleyball team hosts Albia Tuesday night.
Festivities will ramp up Wednesday night with a Powder Puff game in Mustang Stadium at 6 p.m. The action will shift to the DCHS staff parking lot at 7 p.m. for the annual Mustang games.
At 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, the annual homecoming bonfire will be lit in the east high school parking lot and the Optimist Club will be serving free hot dogs to students.
High school classes will observe Dress-Up Day on Wednesday with students wearing their class colors: freshmen — green; sophomores — red; juniors — black; and seniors — pink.
Students will dress as retirees on Thursday, and Homecoming Coronation will take place in the DCHS gym at 7 p.m.
Students will dress in maroon and gold school colors on Friday and hold a pep assembly at Mustang Stadium at noon.
The Homecoming Parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The Homecoming Game will cap off the week’s festivities at 7 p.m. as the varsity football team opposes the Centerville Big Reds in the pennant game in Mustang Stadium.
