The Iowa Nut Growers Association will be hosting our 2021 Fall Meeting and Field Tour at several locations in Southern Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 2nd. The day will begin with a tour of the late Norman Hanson property in rural Unionville.

Longtime member Norman Hanson, who passed away several years ago, left a legacy of unique trees on his property. From black walnut to shagbark hickory, paw paw, persimmons, chestnuts and more.

The next stop will be at Indian Hills Community College for lunch and to learn about and tour the Nut Research Site which host’s black walnuts, pecans, hickory, chestnut, hazelnut and more. Neric Smith and Brydon Kaster with Indian Hills will lead attendees on a tour of the different plantings.  Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about this great site and all the cool research going on.

The final stop of the day will be at the chestnut operation of Jason Gradeless near rural Melrose. Jason has an impressive chestnut planting and provides seedlings to new growers interested in getting started.
