Deb Jarr, leader of the Chequest Eagles 4-H club, will be inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at 1:30 p.m. August 18, 2019 in the 4-H Exhibit Building at the Iowa State Fair.
Each County Extension office may select an individual or couple to induct into the 4-H Hall of Fame. The 4-H Hall of Fame is an opportunity for counties all over Iowa to recognize their outstanding volunteers or staff at the state level. When Jarr first heard the news that she was nominated for this award, she said, “I was ecstatic and honored to be a part of this great community.”
Jarr has been a leader of the Chequest Eagles for 15 years and is one of the nine leaders that help shape the minds of the 93 members. Deb has always been a part of the Chequest Eagles; going back to her high school days she was involved in the club.
Throughout her many years as a 4-H leader Jarr has been able to help many people in her community and those around the country. With help from her 4-H club, Deb was able to package crayon and Lego packs for children affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas. Through this opportunity Deb was able to travel to Texas and hand deliver the packages to children around the Houston area.
The Chequest Eagles do many different volunteer opportunities for communities with the help of Jarr and the other Chequest Eagle leaders. On Aug. 15, the Chequest Eagles 4-H club will be helping with Little Hands on the Farm at the Iowa State Fair.
Jarr says she always wants to be there for her 4-Hers and will always be the first to clear her schedule to go to their activities. She continues to go above and beyond for her 4-Hers because that is what her leaders did for her. Deb said she wants to spread the positivity and love for 4-H that her leaders instilled in her. She wants to give those 4-Hers everything she had as a kid. Deb said all she does in her role as a leader is lead by example, and she is honored that she can do all of this in the position that she is in.
