Mary JoAnn Swaim, 77, of Bloomfield passed away on September 7, 2021 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born on March 26, 1944 in Davis County to Mervin James and Helen Lucinda Thompson McElderry. She graduated from Davis County High School in 1962 and married Thomas Swaim on June 24, 1962. Tom passed away on January 22, 2006.

Jo worked at John Deere until moving to the family farm in 1979. She later owned and operated the “Line Stop” gas station located near Lancaster, Mo. at the Iowa – Missouri line. She owned the gas station until her retirement.

Jo enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, was involved in the Bloomfield Senior Center and active in the Bloomfield and Drakesville United Methodist Churches.

She is survived by three children, Marta (Harold Woten) Davis, Scott (Darci) Swaim, Thomas (Joni) Swaim; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, James (Kay) McElderry; sisters-in-law, Carol McElderry, Emeliy Springer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tim Mervin McElderry, Tom McElderry; husband, Thomas Swaim; and son-in-law, Scott Davis.

Visitation for Jo will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 17, at the Wagler Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4-6 p.m. No services are planned.
