In fourth grade, three other girls and I were selected to go to T.T.T. Camp in Minnesota. I couldn’t believe it!
I remember a couple of ladies giving me practically a whole wardrobe of donated clothes which were nicer than anything I already had. Each of us girls received two brand new outfits, a pair of pajamas, and a teddy bear to take to camp.
We were even provided a few stamped envelopes so we could write home. Women from the organization sent cards to us at camp. Receiving mail was an unexpected surprise.
We rode a charter bus with TVs all the way to camp. My mind was blown by those TVs.
Camp was exactly what I dreamed it would be. We had bunk beds, ate in a mess hall, swam in the lake, and sang songs and roasted marshmallows around a camp fire.
To this day, that is one of my favorite memories from childhood. I am so grateful to the T.T.T. organization and the local chapter of ladies that enabled me to have that normal, yet unattainable, childhood experience.
